Tyronn Lue to coach Eastern Conference all-stars
Tyronn Lue has just three games under his belt as a head coach. However, that won’t stop him from the coaching in this year’s NBA All-Star Game.
The league announced on Wednesday Lue will assume the role of head coach for the Eastern Conference in next month’s showcase in Toronto. Lue, of course, replaced David Blatt as the head coach of the Cavaliers and inherited a team with the best record in the Eastern Conference. Cleveland has won two of the three games they’ve played since Lue took over the reins.
On being named an all-star coach, Lue said it was a nod to his former colleague.

NBA rules state the head coach of the team in each conference with the highest winning percentage through the cutoff date (January 31 this year) will get to coach in the all-star game. So, even though he’s only been in charge since last week, Lue is eligible. Gregg Popovich will coach the west squad since Steve Kerr, who coached in last year’s game, is ineligible to do so again this year.
