Wizards reportedly the front-runners to hire Scott Brooks

Scott Brooks

The Washington Wizards are definitely not trying to get off Scott-free in their search for a new head coach.

According to a report by Marc Stein of ESPN on Monday, with the Rockets in the midst of a playoff series against the defending champion Warriors, the Wizards have emerged as the front-runners to hire former Coach of the Year Scott Brooks.

The 50-year-old Brooks was linked to the Wizards’ job immediately after the firing of longtime head coach Randy Wittman last week, and now it looks like the team’s interest is starting to seriously heat up.

Brooks enjoyed a successful seven-year run as head coach of the Oklahoma City Thunder compiling a record of 338-207 (.620), winning the Coach of the Year Award in 2010, and making the NBA Finals in 2012. He has an excellent history of player development. More importantly, his experience in OKC coaching Kevin Durant, Washington’s favorite son in whom they have noted interest in bringing home as a free agent this summer, cannot be overstated.

A veteran head coach who deserves another chance in the NBA, Brooks is one of the most qualified candidates available on the market, and the Wizards would really benefit from the balance and leadership he can provide.
