Report: Wizards, Lakers will not get Kevin Durant meetings, Knicks have a chance
Now that we know who is getting an initial meeting with Kevin Durant once his free agency kicks off, it’s time to get a clearer picture of which teams are interested but have no real chance of landing the superstar.
According to Sam Amick of USA Today, the Los Angeles Lakers and Washington Wizards will not be landing meetings with Durant barring unforeseen changes. The New York Knicks, however, are said to have a chance of meeting with Durant, as he has taken note of their acquisition of Derrick Rose.
Amick notes that Durant’s decision will likely come quickly. He is set to visit Europe starting on July 9, which is apparently viewed as something of a soft deadline.
The news will be hugely disappointing, if not unexpected, to both the Lakers and Wizards. Washington is Durant’s hometown and the franchise surely would have liked to believe they could tempt him home, although that factor reportedly proved a negative and not a positive. The Lakers, or at least their legendary players, wanted a transcendent star in the fold with Kobe Bryant retiring. Instead, it seems neither will get their chance to sell Durant on their team, and one of these six teams will likely end up landing the superstar.
