Pacman Jones arrested after allegedly beating person unconscious

Pacman Jones

Former NFL defensive back Adam “Pacman” Jones is once again in trouble with the law, and his latest arrest sounds quite serious.

Jones was arrested in Cincinnati early Monday morning after he allegedly beat a person unconscious, according to court records obtained by WCPO. The 37-year-old was charged with misdemeanor assault after he was accused of punching and kicking a person in the head repeatedly.

Jones was scheduled to face a judge in Hamilton County on Monday.

Those who followed Jones’ career know that he has been arrested multiple times. He was suspended the entire 2007 season and part of 2008 for a strip club shooting he incited. He was even arrested at a casino as recently as 2019 but had been out of the news otherwise until now.

Jones played the bulk of his career for the Cincinnati Bengals. He retired in 2019 and opened up last year about his mental health issues.

Baker Mayfield pays tribute to loyal Browns fan who died

Baker Mayfield

The Cleveland Browns lost one of their most passionate fans on Saturday when Tom Seipel died, and the news had a big impact on Baker Mayfield and his family.

Mayfield and his wife Emily developed a close relationship with Seipel, who had been battling kidney cancer. Mayfield paid tribute to Seipel on Twitter after receiving the bad news.

Emily Mayfield first learned of Seipel’s story late last year and shared it with Baker. When Seipel was in hospice care in December, Mayfield sent him an encouraging video. The Mayfield family then invited Seipel and his family to use their suite for Cleveland’s Week 17 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, which sent the Browns to the playoffs. Seipel’s family alluded to the experience in an Instagram post on Saturday.

“Thanks to loyal Browns supporters, including quarterback, Baker Mayfield and his wife, Emily, Tommy and his dad attended the final regular season game where the Browns defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers to gain a playoff spot for the first time in years,” the family’s statement read. “It was a magical weekend that provided him with a tremendous boost at the end of his life.”

Before he died, Seipel gushed about Emily Mayfield and the effort she made to keep in contact with him.

“You don’t understand how much she kept in touch,” Seipel said. “She would literally send me a message every night, ‘How are you feeling today? You haven’t sent me your blog yet.’”

Mayfield may have been hard on himself for a mistake he made in Cleveland’s playoff loss, but what he and his wife did off the field toward the end of the season was more important than the on-field result.

Jalen Hurts gives sign that he is Eagles’ starting quarterback

Jalen Hurts

The Philadelphia Eagles still have some issues at the quarterback position, but Jalen Hurts is trying to resolve them for the team.

Hurts became the Eagles’ starter late in the season last year after Carson Wentz struggled all season. Hurts gave the Eagles some sparks, though he also had his struggles. Hurts was benched late in Week 17 in controversial fashion but otherwise did OK.

This offseason, Hurts appears to be taking matters into his hands. NBC Sports Philadelphia’s John Clark reported during the week that some young Eagles receivers are planning to work out with Hurts in Texas.

We have not heard any reports about Wentz working out with his receivers, which is typically something a starting quarterback would do. But this isn’t much of a surprise.

Wentz is seeking a trade and has been mentioned in trade talks. Hurts was a second-round pick last year and still fairly new to the team.

This is yet another sign that the Eagles are Hurts’ team, for now.

Report: Gus Malzahn offered UCF head coach job

Gus Malzahn

Could Gus Malzahn be back in the college football mix this fall?

Malzahn has been offered the head football coach job by UCF, according to Auburn Undercover and the Orlando Sentinel.

Central Florida has a vacancy after losing Josh Heupel to Tennessee last month. Heupel was poached by Tennessee, which is now led by former UCF athletic director Danny White.

New UCF athletic director Terry Mohajir likes Malzahn and made the former Auburn head coach his top target. Mohajir was the athletic director at Arkansas State when Malzahn coached there in 2012.

Malzahn went 68-35 in eight seasons at Auburn. The 55-year-old was owed over $20 million from Auburn after they fired him.

Brad Keselowski throws some shade after Daytona 500 crash

Brad Keselowski

Don’t expect to hear an apology from Brad Keselowski over what happened at the end of the Daytona 500 on Sunday night.

Keselowski was second behind Joey Logano on the final lap of the race. He tried to make a move for the inside to pass his teammate but ended up nudging Logano. Both drivers spun out and got wrecked, which opened the door for Michael McDowell to win.

Keselowski was asked about the crash after the race and was not apologetic.

“Had a big run down the back stretch. Wanted to make the pass to win the Daytona 500,” Keselowski explained. “It ended up really bad. I don’t feel like I made a mistake, but [I] can’t drive everyone else’s car. … Had to run, made the move, it just didn’t work out.”

It’s hard to blame Keselowski for going for the win in such a significant race. He also said he did not make a mistake, but he threw shade at the other drivers for getting wrecked. This shouldn’t be surprising from Keselowski, who is known for his fights with opposing drivers.

Michael McDowell shockingly wins Daytona 500 after late crash

Michael McDowell win

Michael McDowell emerged as the shocking winner of the Daytona 500 on Sunday night after a crash in the final lap altered things.

Joey Logano was leading but got nudged by teammate Brad Keselowski, sending both cars spinning out. A few other drivers, like Kyle Busch, were also taken out in the wreck.

McDowell was drafting behind Keselowski and may have nudged the No. 2 car into the 22 to cause the wreck. Keselowski was trying to cut under Logano as well, which didn’t help his teammate.

McDowell was out in front when caution came out, giving him the win.

This marked the first career Cup Series win for McDowell, making him the eighth driver to secure his first win at the Daytona 500. Chase Elliott finished second. What a win for Front Row Motorsports.

Video: LeBron James somehow was not called for traveling on this dunk

LeBron James traveling

The NBA’s referees have us once again scratching our heads.

LeBron James had a dunk right before halftime of Sunday night’s Los Angeles Lakers game against the Denver Nuggets. James resembled more of a football player than basketball player with the way he ran with the ball.

Of course, being the star that he is, James was not called for a travel.

The Lakers could use the break after losing Anthony Davis in the second quarter due to his Achilles injury.

Anthony Davis leaves Lakers game with injury

Anthony Davis

Anthony Davis left Sunday night’s Los Angeles Lakers-Denver Nuggets game after appearing to suffer a leg injury.

Davis was preparing to drive while being defended by Nikola Jokic. He took a step before screaming in pain.

Davis appeared to make contact with Jokic, though it’s unclear whether that was the cause of the injury. Davis remained in the game to shoot two free throws before limping off the court.

Davis recently missed two games for the Lakers due to a sore right Achilles tendon. He was grabbing at the same area on his leg after he shot his free throws. He had 15 points in 14 minutes prior to the injury.

Report: NBA wants LaMelo Ball at All-Star Weekend

LaMelo Ball

As LaMelo Ball’s star continues to rise, the league is looking to get him some exposure on one of the biggest stages of the year.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported this week that the NBA “really” wants the Charlotte Hornets rookie at All-Star Weekend. Specifically, Wojnarowski reports, the league would like Ball to compete in the Skills Challenge.

Ball, who is now starting for the Hornets, leads all rookies with averages of 14.6 points, 6.0 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. His 6.0 rebounds per game are also second only to seven-footer James Wiseman of Golden State. That is far more than most were expecting from Ball at just 19 years old, as he has helped transform Charlotte into a top-six seed in the East as well as one of the most entertaining young teams in the entire league.

Granted, Ball has had his fair share of struggles this season as well. But he is already cementing himself as a big-time box office draw, and the NBA is definitely taking notice.

Here is why Bills fans are rooting for Jessica Pegula at Australian Open

Jessica Pegula

The NFL season may be over, but Buffalo Bills fans still have a rooting interest.

Bills fans are rallying around American tennis player Jessica Pegula, who upset fifth-ranked Elina Svitolina in Melbourne on Monday to reach the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. It marks the first time the 26-year-old Pegula has advanced to the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam event.

So what is the Bills connection? Pegula, a Buffalo native, is the daughter of Bills owners Terry and Kim Pegula. Buffalo fans have accordingly rallied support for her tournament run, which has seen her upset two ranked opponents so far.

Pegula’s career has been slowed by injuries, but she has been healthy lately and climbed to No. 62 in the WTA rankings entering the Australian Open.

It wasn’t that long ago that there were questions about whether Pegula’s parents had the capability to turn the Bills into winners. They have done that, and now the city is rooting hard for Jessica down under.
