Deshaun Watson reportedly wants a trade to this AFC team

Deshaun Watson

Deshaun Watson wants out of Houston by all indications, and there is one AFC team he would like to be traded to.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that there is a growing sense Watson has played his last snap with the Texans. Chris Mortensen was told that Watson would like a trade to the Miami Dolphins. The lack of state income taxes combined with the culture Watson has observed for the Dolphins under coach Brian Flores apparently appeal to Watson.

Watson is a franchise quarterback and just 25 years old. No team would want to trade him, while almost any team in the NFL would welcome him. Losing him would be huge for Houston and would require a heavy trade package.

Miami has draft picks available thanks to ripping off Houston in the Laremy Tunsil trade. Maybe they could get that pick back for Watson, and then much more. Watson led the league in passing yards this season with 4,823.

Brittany Matthews backs Chad Henne after fiance Patrick Mahomes in concussion protocol

Patrick Mahomes Brittany Matthews

Brittany Matthews wasted no time supporting Kansas City’s backup quarterback after her fiance Patrick Mahomes was placed in concussion protocol.

Mahomes was knocked out of the AFC Divisional Round playoff game between the Chiefs and Cleveland Browns midway through the third quarter after being tackled on a rushing play. He was taken to the medical tent and then into the locker room for an examination, where he was declared out with a concussion.

Chad Henne stepped into the game for the Chiefs.

Though her fiance was out with a serious injury, Matthews was already backing Henne with full enthusiasm.

“LFG” is an acronym for “let’s f—ing go,” so you know she was pumped up.

Henne helped the Chiefs get a field goal on the possession where Mahomes was hurt, but he was intercepted in the end zone on the following possession. Henne also played in the Chiefs’ Week 17 loss to the Chargers.

Tyreek Hill shoves coach Greg Lewis, seemingly as joke

Tyreek Hill shove

Something a bit strange happened involving Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill during the third quarter of Sunday’s AFC Divisional game.

As CBS was going to break, cameras caught Hill seemingly angrily yelling at wide receivers coach Greg Lewis, then outright shoving him on the bench. The incident quickly attracted the attention of many viewers, though the network cut to commercial before anyone could really figure out the context.

The network revisited the incident upon returning from the break. Hill appeared open on a third down play the Chiefs ultimately didn’t convert, which may have sparked the frustration. Whatever the case, Lewis was laughing it off a few moments later.

Hill isn’t a stranger to unique or controversial actions, and the confrontation looked really bad initially. Expect it to be downplayed, but it was a weird moment.

Kevin Stefanski makes puzzling call to not go for two against Chiefs

Kevin Stefanski

Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski made a puzzling decision to not attempt a two-point conversion in the second half of his team’s Divisional Round game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

The Browns scored a touchdown early in the third quarter to cut Kansas City’s lead to 19-9. They had the option of going for two to make it a one-possession game, but Stefanski sent the field goal unit out and took the extra point.

Why? That’s a good question.

Tony Romo speculated on the CBS broadcast that Stefanski must not have had a play he loved for that situation. Since it was only the third quarter, Stefanski likely felt there was plenty of time to make up the two scores.

Many would disagree with the coach, and rightfully so. Every possession is extremely important against a high powered offense like the one led by Patrick Mahomes. Had the Browns gone for two and converted, they would have been down eight. Had they missed, they would have been down 10 and in almost the same position as trailing by nine.

Things changed a bit when Mahomes left with a frightening injury, but Stefanski’s decision to not go for two came before that. It’s fair for Browns fans to question it.

Patrick Mahomes in concussion protocol after hit to head

Patrick Mahomes concussion

Patrick Mahomes was checked for a concussion after bumping his head in the third quarter of Sunday’s AFC Divisional Round playoff game between his Kansas City Chiefs and the Cleveland Browns. He was later ruled out for the game as he officially was placed in concussion protocol.

Mahomes’ Chiefs were up 19-10 on the Browns in the third and were driving near midfield. KC had a 3rd-and-1 just shy of midfield and ran an option play. Mahomes rushed and was tackled just short of the first down marker. His head bumped the turf on the tackle, and Mahomes came up completely woozy.

Mahomes looked out of it and was taken for a medical check in the tent. Then he was seen jogging off the field and into the locker room.

Mahomes was 21/30 for 255 yards and a touchdown pass prior to the head injury. He also had a rushing touchdown.

Chad Henne replaced Mahomes in the game. Mahomes also dealt with a toe injury in the first half of the game.

Rashard Higgins’ goal-line fumble should have been targeting penalty

Rashard-Higgins-fumble

The Cleveland Browns had a crushing fumble at the goal line during the first half of their game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, but they should have maintained possession of the ball.

Trailing the Kansas City Chiefs 16-3 with less than two minutes remaining in the first half, Cleveland put together a strong drive that looked like it was going to end with a touchdown. Instead, Browns wide receiver Rashard Higgins fumbled while trying to dive for the goal line. The ball went out the side of the end zone, resulting in a turnover and a touchback for the Chiefs.

The fumble probably should not have stood, however. Replays appeared to show that Chiefs safety Daniel Sorensen committed a personal foul by lowering his helmet to initiate contact with Higgins. CBS rules analyst Gene Steratore said the officials should have called a penalty.

The only way that play could have been worse for the Browns is if it happened on their final possession. Had they scored, they would have gone into halftime trailing 16-10 and gotten the ball in the second half. Instead, the Chiefs were able to add a field goal before the half to take a 19-3 lead.

We know one player who knows how it feels to cough up the ball at the goal line with so much at stake.

Rex Ryan has stern warning for Urban Meyer about jump to NFL

Rex Ryan

Count Rex Ryan among those skeptical that Urban Meyer will find success in the NFL.

Ryan had a stern warning for the new Jacksonville Jaguars coach, even alluding to Bobby Petrino as evidence of how things can go awry for successful college coaches at the NFL level.

“Welcome to the men’s league. You’re gonna find out real quick there’s a huge difference,” Ryan said, via Brad Crawford of 247Sports. “Look, there’s no doubt this man can flat-out coach. But it is night-and-day difference. Why do coaches come into the league and quit after a year, don’t even make it a full year? I can give you two examples of that, Lou Holtz and the dude who quit on the Falcons (Bobby Petrino), whatever his name is. It’s a different league, it’s a different mindset. There’s no gimmes in here, you can’t schedule a victory, hey I’m gonna drop down a level, ain’t no I-AA’s in this league.”

Ryan added that Meyer will have to build through the draft and cannot simply recruit all the top talent at the NFL level. He also suggested that Meyer should add Raheem Morris to his staff to add some NFL experience. That’s something Meyer is reportedly looking into.

Ryan obviously isn’t the first person to voice concerns about Meyer’s adaptation to the NFL level. That said, his college players have found plenty of success at the NFL level. Meyer certainly has a chance to do so as well, though plenty of things do need to go right.

Patrick Mahomes suffers toe injury against Browns

Patrick Mahomes

Patrick Mahomes suffered an injury early in Sunday’s playoff game between the Cleveland Browns and Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chiefs scored touchdowns on their first two drives of the Divisional Round game. Mahomes went into the blue medical tent after the second. CBS sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson said shortly after that Kansas City’s medical staff was examining the quarterback’s left big toe.

Mahomes was shown grimacing as he walked off the field following the Chiefs’ second drive. He then appeared to be limping a bit after exiting the medical tent.

While Mahomes remained in the game, the injury will be worth monitoring. The reigning Super Bowl MVP scored the Chiefs’ first touchdown on a rushing play, which led to a fantastic pop culture reference from Tony Romo.

Chiefs fans, you’ll love this Andy Reid cheeseburger shirt. Reid loves his cheeseburgers, and you can wear it. This makes a perfect gift for you or a friend. You can buy it here.

Tony Romo drops ‘Napoleon Dynamite’ reference after Patrick Mahomes TD

Patrick Mahomes wasted no time finding the end zone in the Kansas City Chiefs’ game against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, and the way he celebrated paved the way for Tony Romo to deliver an outstanding pop culture reference.

Mahomes heaved the ball into the stands at Arrowhead Stadium after he rushed for a 1-yard touchdown to give the Chiefs an early 6-0 lead. Jim Nantz noted on the CBS broadcast that the ball landed somewhere near the last row of the upper deck. Romo chimed in that Mahomes could “throw it over those mountains over there” if he wanted to.

Those who have seen “Napoleon Dynamite” immediately got the reference. Romo was doing his best Uncle Rico impression.

Add that to the growing list of reasons we love Romo. Between that and his hilarious sexual innuendo last week, Romo has been on fire during the playoffs.

Texans’ Randall Cobb sends great tweet amid Deshaun Watson drama

Deshaun Watson

The situation with Deshaun Watson and the Houston Texans appears to get worse by the day, and even Watson’s teammates appear to be acknowledging the ugliness.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Sunday that there are people within the Texans organization who fear Watson has played his last snap for the team. Schefter also said head coaching candidates view the Houston job as extremely undesirable. Shortly after all that news came out, Texans wide receiver Randall Cobb sent the following tweet:

Cobb is under contract with the Texans for two more seasons, which makes his tweet even more embarrassing for the team. That is likely an indication that things look as bad from the inside in Houston as they do from the outside.

Watson seemed to confirm his unhappiness with the Texans when he sent this cryptic tweet on Friday.
