Joe Buck appears to crack funny Tony Romo money joke

Joe Buck

Joe Buck cracked a funny joke on Sunday that seemed to be about Tony Romo’s big salary.

Buck was doing the lineup introductions for the Green Bay Packers during the team’s game against the Indianapolis Colts. He mentioned that left tackle David Bakhtiari was now “highly compensated.”

Bakhtiari signed a four-year contract extension last week for $23 million per year.

“He’s making quarterback, he’s making NFL TV analyst kind of money,” Buck joked of Bakhtiari.

So what’s the joke? Buck seemed to be alluding to the amount of money Romo makes from CBS, which is more than most NFL players earn. The joke may also have come because of a story during the week saying CBS play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz was seeking Romo money.

Buck himself and his broadcast partner Troy Aikman are both highly compensated as well, but they’re not making Romo money, nor Bakhtiari money.

Joe Burrow sends tweet about serious knee injury

Joe Burrow injury

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow suffered a serious knee injury on Sunday, and we now know it is one that will end his season.

Not long after he was carted off the field against Washington, Burrow indicated on Twitter that the injury will keep him out for the remainder of the year.

“Thanks for all the love. Can’t get rid of me that easy. See ya next year,” Burrow wrote.

Burrow sent the tweet while the Bengals’ game against Washington was still ongoing, so he obviously received a very quick diagnosis from team doctors.

Burrow was hit by two Washington defenders on a pass attempt early in the third quarter. His left leg bent awkwardly underneath him. Burrow immediately clutched his knee in pain and was carted off.

The extent of the injury remains unclear, but it sounds like Burrow has a long recovery ahead of him.

NFL world reacts to Joe Burrow injury

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow left Sunday’s game against Washington with what looked like a serious knee injury, and the rookie received support from across the NFL world after he was carted off the field.

Burrow, who has been having a great first NFL season, was sandwiched between two defenders early in the second half. His left leg bent awkwardly underneath him, and he immediately clutched his knee in pain. Star quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Russell Wilson were among the first to tweet their support for Burrow.

Players from both teams, including Washington star pass-rusher Chase Young, surrounded Burrow and wished him well as he was carted off.

There were plenty more tributes from across the NFL and sports world.

Burrow also took a huge hit from Young earlier in the game (video here), though he was able to bounce back quickly from that one. Hopefully the knee injury isn’t as bad as it looks.

Joe Burrow carted off with knee injury

Joe Burrow

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow suffered a knee injury during Sunday’s game against Washington that looks like it could potentially be serious.

Burrow was sandwiched between two defenders on a pass early in the third quarter, and his left leg folded awkwardly underneath him. He immediately clutched his left knee in pain and was carted off the field.

Hopefully the injury turns out to be less severe than expected, but it did not look good. The Bengals ruled Burrow out for the remainder of the game almost immediately.

The vicious hit was the second one Burrow took in the game, as he was also laid out by Chase Young in the first half (video here).

Burrow had completed 22-of-34 passes for 203 yards and a touchdown prior to exiting the game. The Bengals trailed 14-9 when he left.

Patrick Queen took Derrick Henry cleat to the face on painful-looking play

Patrick Queen Derrick Henry

Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry is known for being one of the toughest players in the NFL to bring down, but Sunday may have been the first time he accidentally raked an opponent in the face with his cleat.

Baltimore Ravens linebacker Patrick Queen tried to make a shoestring tackle on Henry in the first half, but what he ended up with was a faceful of Henry’s cleat. Henry’s foot got under Queen’s chinstrap and somehow popped the rookie’s helmet off. You could see on the replay that the bottom of Henry’s cleat actually scraped Queen’s face.

Queen remained down and was tended to by trainers, but fortunately he returned to the game shortly after.

One prominent head coach even said recently that he understands why players are intimidated of Henry. That was a new type of punishment that the running back inflicted on Queen, albeit an unintentional one.

Video: Chase Young makes Joe Burrow fumble with monster hit

Chase Young Joe Burrow

The first two picks in the 2020 NFL Draft went head-to-head on Sunday, and it was Chase Young who got the best of Joe Burrow in the early going.

With the Cincinnati Bengals facing 4th-and-goal from the 3-yard line, Burrow tried to scramble for the end zone and was absolute throttled by Young as he reached for the goal line. The hit caused Burrow to cough up the ball.

Here’s another angle of the hit:

The result of the play took a while to sort out. It was initially ruled on the field that Washington recovered the fumble and fumbled back into the end zone before recovering again, which resulted in a safety. The Bengals committed a hold on the play, so Washington accepted the penalty and 3rd down was supposed to be replayed. A review then determined that Washington never actually established possession of the loose ball until they recovered it in the end zone, so the result of the play was a touchdown. The holding penalty was declined at that point.

Burrow has drawn a lot of praise this season, and deservedly so. Young gets far less attention as a defensive player, but he certainly showed why he was the No. 2 overall pick on that hit.

Video: John Harbaugh, Malcolm Butler get into it during pregame argument

Malcolm Butler John Harbaugh

Sunday’s game between the Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens was an important one for the AFC playoff picture, and tempers boiled over before the opening kickoff.

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh appeared to take exception to a group of Titans players gathering on Baltimore’s midfield logo at M&T Bank Stadium before the game. When Harbaugh walked over to seemingly confront the Titans, Malcolm Butler became animated and started shouting at him. The two were quickly separated.

The photo below shows how the Titans gathered on the Ravens’ logo:

As Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic explained, the Titans are known for gathering on their opponent’s logo before the game. They did the same thing before their playoff game against Baltimore at M&T Bank Stadium back in January. Harbaugh apparently felt it was disrespectful, and he and Titans head coach Mike Vrabel had a brief discussion about it after the confrontation.

Gathering or celebrating on an opposing team’s logo is generally viewed a sign of disrespect in football. That’s why we saw one player stopped from doing so in Dallas (see the video) earlier this season.

Raheem Morris the favorite to become Falcons’ full-time head coach?

Raheem Morris

The Atlanta Falcons will be looking for a head coach this offseason after they fired Dan Quinn five games into the season, but they may not have to search very far.

The Falcons have played well since former defensive coordinator Raheem Morris was promoted to interim head coach. The results have impressed ownership and the front office, and Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that Morris is a viable candidate to be named Atlanta’s full-time head coach.

Morris has led the Falcons to a 3-1 record since Quinn was fired. The only loss was when Atlanta fell 23-22 to the Detroit Lions after Todd Gurley committed one of the most costly blunders of the season. Atlanta could easily be undefeated under Morris, so his name should be at or near the top of the team’s list for head coaching candidates.

As La Canfora notes, the Falcons also like that Morris has experience on both sides of the ball. The 44-year-old was a wide receivers coach at one point in Atlanta, so he is more than just a defensive mind.

Morris has certainly made some mistakes, but he walked into an ugly situation and has steadied the ship. He may be the best man for the job going forward.

Report: Lakers a ‘serious suitor’ for Marc Gasol

Marc Gasol

The Los Angeles Lakers have already shown this offseason that they want to significantly improve their roster even after winning a title, and Marc Gasol is another big-name veteran they have their eye on.

The Lakers have emerged as a “serious suitor” for Gasol, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic. Gasol, a three-time All-Star, wants to contend for another title and is intrigued by the possibility of playing in Los Angeles.

Gasol was traded to the Toronto Raptors midway through the 2018-19 season, and he helped the team win a championship with Kawhi Leonard leading the way. The 35-year-old was then a big reason why Toronto remain competitive and won 53 games last season despite losing Leonard, though his offensive numbers were down a bit. Gasol averaged 7.5 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.

The Lakers made a huge move on Friday when they stole reigning NBA Sixth Man of the Year Montrezl Harrell away from the Los Angeles Clippers. They could still use another veteran in their frontcourt, as Dwight Howard looked like he was going to re-sign with the Lakers before pivoting amid unusual circumstances. Gasol could certainly help fill that void.

Lakers fans, show everyone who runs LA with this great T-shirt. It makes a perfect gift for you or a friend. You can buy it here.

Cincinnati trolls UCF after road win

Cincinnati once again lived up to its top-10 national ranking with an impressive road win over UCF on Saturday, and the Bearcats wasted no time rubbing it in to their opponent.

UCF’s football stadium in Orlando is known as the “Bounce House” because of the way it would shake when fans jumped in unison when it opened years ago. The school eventually took steps to make the stadium a bit more structurally sound, but the name remains. After their 36-33 win over UCF, Cincinnati sent a clever tweet trolling the Knights.

Cincinnati improved to 7-0 and has been one of the surprise teams of the season. Their final two games are against Temple and No. 25 Tulsa, so they have a great chance to go undefeated.

Of course, UCF is no stranger to being mocked. We all remember how much mileage people got out of the Knights crowning themselves national champions.
