David Beckham is one of the celebrities who made the trip to Macau to watch Manny Pacquiao’s fight with Brandon Rios on Saturday night (Sunday morning local time). Becks is a self-proclaimed “huge” Pac-Man fan and even hung out with the Filipino fighter before the fight.
Beckham attended the fight as a guest of the casino owner, with whom he plans to collaborate on projects. He also made the trip as a show of support for Manny and the Philippines, which was devastated by Typhoon Haiyan, which has resulted in over 4,000 deaths.
“It’s obviously one of the reasons why I’m here and why I’m really excited being here,” said Beckham. “I’m a huge fan of Manny’s. I met him a couple of years ago in the Philippines, when I was on tour there with the Galaxy and also there with UNICEF. And he truly is an inspirational person.
“I haven’t spoken to him, but I know how much this fight is going to mean to him this weekend because of everything that is happening in the Philippines. The eyes of the world have been on the Philippines the last couple of weeks and I know how much this is going to mean to him.”
The Beckhams also donated designer clothing to a Red Cross shop in London so the money could be used to support the Philippines.
