Fan throws box of trash at Victor Ortiz after fight (Video)

Victor Ortiz trash

Victor Ortiz was hit in the head with a box of trash thrown by a fan after his defeat to Andre Berto at StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. on Saturday night.

Ortiz lost his rematch with Berto after being knocked out in the fourth round. The fans in attendance, who initially backed the SoCal-based fighter, turned on him after they felt like he quit following the second knockdown of the round.

Things got particularly ugly after Ortiz exited the ring along with his team and was pelted in the face by someone who had stuffed a small pizza box with trash. Ortiz did not respond to the act of disrespect but instead was ushered out of the arena. Members of his team stood up to the fan in response.

You can see two angles of the incident here:

Larry Brown Sports was covering the fight and can tell you all the attention turned to that part of the arena when the incident occurred. Security swarmed to take care of matters.

That wasn’t the only disrespect Ortiz endured from the fans; as this video shows, many members of the crowd started name-calling Ortiz in Spanish.

Ortiz (31-6-2, 24 KOs) said after the defeat that he plans to take some time off.
