Floyd Mayweather can read, so says his publicist (Video)

Floyd MayweatherThe question of whether or not Floyd Mayweather Jr. can read — rather, the question of at what level can Floyd Mayweather Jr. read — was raised last week by his former buddy 50 Cent.

50 used to be close to Floyd like a brother, but the two had a big falling out around the time Floyd went to jail for his domestic violence assault. Since then, 50 Cent has spent a lot of time messing with Mayweather.

Last week, instead of doing the Ice Bucket Challenge for ALS, 50 decided to issue a better challenge to Mayweather: read a page out of a Harry Potter book without stumbling or starting over and I’ll donate $750,000 to charity. A day later, 50 lowered expectations by saying Floyd just had to read “The Cat in the Hat.”

Things went from funny to serious after a radio station shared an audio clip of Mayweather struggling to read some promos. Many people had a laugh over Money’s seeming illiteracy.

Anyway, fast forward to this week and Mayweather’s publicist felt the need to email the media to assure the public that Mayweather, in fact, can read.

“I have worked with Floyd Mayweather since 2005 and feel it is only right that I come to his defense. The unfair reports that Floyd cannot read, which have been posted on social media by various individuals and reported by certain media outlets, are simply not true. The proof is in the pudding.

“Please watch and download a video (using the link below) that was recorded by Floyd for promotional purposes (which included taping a spot for a CBS College Football game and a spot promoting his fight against Marcos Maidana).

“Appreciate your time and attention with regard to this matter. I believe it is extremely unfair for people to make claims against others that are unfounded and hence, filled with malice. I hope you are willing to help me right this wrong and report “the rest of this story” with these facts.”

The aforementioned video is posted at the top of the page.

Like I said, this isn’t really a question of whether or not Floyd can read, but how well he can read. Given that Floyd and 50 used to be besties, I trust 50’s knowledge on this one.
