Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao fight to cost $99 on PPV

Floyd Mayweather Manny Pacquiao

We all know Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao are going to take home a record amount of cash after their May 2 title fight, but some of you may be wondering where the incredible stream of revenue will come from. The answer? Your pockets.

Joe Flint of The Wall Street Journal reports that the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight is expected to cost $99 for high-definition pay-per-view and $89 for standard definition. With more than three million pay-per-view customers expected to purchase the fight, the pay-per-view money could more than double the current record of $152 million.

The most a boxing match has ever cost is $74.95 for HD and $64.95 for standard definition.

While that cost may seem absurd considering consumers will be paying significantly more to watch the fight at home than they would for a ticket to most sporting events, it won’t deter people from ordering it. Face value for tickets to the fight is expected to range from $1,500 to $7,000 per seat. Some secondary ticket markets have already listed speculative tickets with an average price of near $10,000 per seat. Ringside seats could cost upward of $85,000.

The best thing Mayweather and Pacquiao could have done for their careers is have the fight negotiations fall apart several years ago. The anticipation for this fight is unprecedented. Now we see why Pacquiao had no issues with buying that house in Beverly Hills last month.
