Hurricane Carter dead at 76 after battle with prostate cancer

Hurricane CarterFormer boxer Rubin Hurricane Carter died at his home in Toronto on Sunday morning at the age of 76. He died during his sleep and the cause of death is said to be prostate cancer.

Carter was 27-12-1 with 19 knockouts in his fighting career. He fought for world titles twice but lost both bouts.

Carter is most well known for being wrongly incarcerated for a triple homicide he did not commit. He was tried in 1967 and ’76 and convicted both times. He was freed after 19 years in jail when the second conviction was overturned.

Carter’s story was captured in the 1999 movie “The Hurricane,” where Denzel Washington played the lead role.
