Manny Pacquiao: Floyd Mayweather is not interested in fighting me

pacquiao-mayweatherManny Pacquiao is preparing for a fight with Chris Algieri in two weeks, but any time he talks with the press, he will inevitably be asked about Floyd Mayweather Jr. And that happened this week as he promoted his Nov. 22 bout in Macau with Algieri.

Pac-Man once again said he has interest in fighting Mayweather, but he said the problem is Floyd does not want the fight.

“I do have one specific goal and that is to give the boxing fans the fight they have always asked for,” Pacquiao said via ESPN’s Dan Rafael. “I want that fight [with Mayweather] too.

“I believe good faith negotiations could produce that fight,” Pacquiao said. “But it is impossible to negotiate when you are the only one sitting at the table. Two fighters who want to fight each other have never been kept from fighting each other.”

Pacquiao has been motivated to try making the fight with Mayweather because it would yield more money for him than any other fight by far. It’s no coincidence that Pacquiao’s desire to face Floyd became even greater around the same time we learned about his IRS tax problems.

Mayweather pulls in well over $30 million for each of his fights thanks to his guaranteed contract with Showtime, so taking a risk by facing someone who could knock him out is not his highest priority. Instead, it’s more fun for Floyd to stick to insulting Pac-Man.
