62-year-old Mickey Rourke wins boxing match (Video)
Actor Mickey Rourke returned to boxing on Friday at the age of 62 and defeated 29-year-old Elliot Seymour by technical knockout.
Rourke, whose fight in Moscow was his first in 20 years, took a break from acting in the 1990s and went 6-0-2 in his three-year professional boxing career. He scored the exhibition win on Friday night after he knocked Seymour down twice and the referee stopped the fight.
“I’ve got some things going on in my life so that [boxing has] sort of saved me from myself,” Rourke told Russian TV, via ESPN.com. “And for a man like me, it’s better to live in fear than go on in shame.”
Rourke is planning another four fights in Russia. He has lost a ton of weight since he starred as a jacked-up bruiser in the 2008 film “The Wrestler.”
Seymour has a 1-9 career record and some of Rourke’s shots appeared to be illegal, but the guy is 62. Being in that kind of shape at that age and winning a fight — no matter how you do it — is a pretty significant achievement.
