Kurt Busch suspended after court decides he likely strangled ex-girlfriend

Kurt Busch has been suspended indefinitely by NASCAR after a Delaware family court commissioner ruled that the driver likely strangled ex-girlfriend Patricia Driscoll.

Commissioner David Jones wrote in a ruling that it was more likely than not that Busch manually strangled Driscoll and slammed her head into a motorhome during a September incident that has been highly publicized.

The Charlotte Observer says Jones determined Driscoll gave “false testimony” at times during the hearing, but that her story was more believable overall than Busch’s.

NASCAR has indefinitely suspended Busch, who may still face criminal charges in the state. Regan Smith is expected to replace Busch in the No. 41 car.

Several restrictions have been placed on Busch regarding his dealings with Driscoll. According to the Observer, that includes:

– Busch cannot threaten, molest, attack, harass or commit any other act of abuse against Driscoll and any minor children in her household.

– Busch cannot come with 100 yards of Driscoll’s person, residence or workplace. At NASCAR races, Busch must maintain a “practicable distance” from Driscoll if both are in attendance.

– Busch cannot attempt to contact Driscoll in any way.

– Busch must be evaluated for “mental health problems” and follow any recommendations by the evaluator.

Busch tried to fight back by smearing Driscoll’s character in court, calling her a trained assassin.
