Will Ferrell is no stranger to joking around in the sports world. He’s shown up at USC practices and helped with Halloween pranks, and he once showed up at a minor league baseball game pretending to be a pitcher. This time he took on the familiar role of introductions announcer, a role he also held in Old School.

In New Orleans to film the movie Dog Fight with Zach Galifianakis, Ferrell did pregame introductions for the Hornets and Bulls. He certainly left most of the players confused, though some of the guys, such as Emeka Okafor, seemed to enjoy the show. Others were more of a buzzkill. The video was pretty entertaining.

EXTRA host Maria Menounos wore a Giants bikini in New York City Monday to pay off a lost Super Bowl bet. Menounos is from Bedford (Mass.) and is a big-time New England sports fan. She bet EXTRA correspondent AJ Calloway that the Pats would win the Super Bowl. If they did, Calloway would have worn a Patriots cheerleader outfit. New England lost, so Maria was left wearing this. I’m sure most folks aren’t complaining.

We already saw a massive fine and change to all broadcasting after Janet Jackson’s “wardrobe malfunction” during the Super Bowl. I wonder what the FCC is going to do about MIA flipping the bird to the world during the halftime show of Super Bowl XLVI? No doubt this has been planned by MIA for a long time. You don’t just say “I don’t give a s***” and flip everyone the middle finger without knowing that you’re going to get a huge reaction. That’s exactly what she was looking for — plenty of publicity. She’ll get it, but she’ll also be known as the person who flipped the bird during the Super Bowl halftime show from now on.

Based on a few tweets, it seems like a few NBC affiliates were able to dump the incident, but plenty of people still saw it.

Kelly Clarkson sang the National Anthem at Super Bowl XLVI between the Giants and Patriots. There was plenty of confusion from people who believed she had something written on her wrist. Some people thought she had some notes, such as the lyrics in case she forgot. But that’s not actually the case; Clarkson has a wrist tattoo that features a cross and the words “Love them more.”

Wale is from Washington D.C. so the Redskins are his team. Shouting out Mallett will only enhance the former Arkansas quarterback’s reputation as a “Caucasian street guy.”

Country singer Brad Paisley performed at the Pepsi Center in Denver Saturday night and was joined on stage by Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow. Tebow helped Paisley sing “I’m still a guy,” and received insane cheers. The quarterback’s singing led to a joke from Paisley after the concert.

“Denver is such a cool city. And thanks for singing with me @TimTebow. But don’t quit your day job pal.”

Tebow zinged him back “Had a great time last night @BradPaisley! I won’t quit my day job and you keep shopping at Baby Gap haha!”

The relationship between the two has been ongoing. Tebow also joined Paisley on stage three years ago when he was still playing at Florida. The reaction in Denver was a wee bit stronger.

You ever see the multi-million dollar price tag on some of those enormous mansions and wonder who in the world can afford them? Well fittingly, one $8.5 million mansion in LA is going from one entertainer to another.

LA Clippers point guard Chris Paul is purchasing singer Avril Lavigne’s mansion in the gated Bel Air Crest community according to TMZ. This is notable not just because the mansion is changing hands from a singer to sports star, but also because of what it tells us about Paul’s future in LA.

Paul was traded to the Clippers in December and is only guaranteed to remain with the team this season (though he has said he will pick up his option for next season). After that, he becomes a free agent. If he’s decided to buy a home in LA instead of renting, it shows he may plan on living in the city for a long time, which is great news for Clippers fans.

As for details on the sick pad, it’s 12,184 square feet and it features 8 bedrooms and 10.5 bathrooms, a wine cellar, 10-car garage, gym, sauna and a covered outdoor living room.

Oh, and by the way Chris, I have some friends who play a weekly game at the basketball court on the premises. If you’re not busy on Tuesday nights, I’m sure they could use an extra point guard.

At 3:15pm ET Wednesday, Lowe tweeted “Hearing my fave, #18 Peyton Manning will not return to #NFL. Wow.”

Lowe then told Rich Eisen “My people are saying Manning will retire today. What do you hear?”

“Colts fans, let’s hope my info is wrong. Don’t like being wrong, but this time… I’m hoping” he added a few minutes later.

Not that we really needed to check, but both Archie Manning and Peyton’s agent denied the claim.

With that in mind, I think what Steve DelVecchio said about the whole sequence of events is right: Lowe is a B-list actor looking for attention and getting what he wanted.

And I’m happy to provide it.

Lowe actually is friends with Colts owner Jim Irsay. Maybe he just got his parlance wrong and he intended to say Peyton wouldn’t be back with the Colts because of medical issues. That is a report I believe and don’t need Rob Lowe for. But keep in mind, Lowe (according to his character is Wayne’s World) speaks fluent Cantonese. His character in Thank You for Smoking played quarterback at UCLA. I don’t think we can doubt a person with such a versatile background, do you?

No matter how you slice it, Rob Lowe becoming the central figure in a major football report is a winning day in LBS history. This is the sort of unpredictability that gets me up each morning.

So that whole thing about reality TV? Yeah, it might need a new name. We already knew that Kim Kardashian was casting boyfriends for her last relationship before agreeing on Kris Humphries. With this latest bit of information, we’re seeing more and more that “reality” TV is really just scripted drama.

Radar Online reports that the well documented proposal by Kris Humphries to Kim Kardashian was staged.

“Kim told Kris how, where and when to propose, it was absolutely no surprise to her whatsoever,” a source said.

“First of all, Kris proposed in the middle of the day, and he had to do that because it would create better lighting to capture the moment. Kim looked so surprised but she knew it was happening,” the source says. “She was in full hair and make-up, as she always is on the show. Kris wanted it to be very intimate and romantic, but all of his ideas were shot down by production officials and Kim.”

Time to adjust our vocabularies because there’s nothing real about reality TV anymore. The proposal couldn’t have been more staged than if it involved DeSean Jackson meeting a bullied child on The View.

“SNL realizes it would be HUGE ratings and they are hoping he will say yes,” a Hollywood Life source says. “Tim just can’t and won’t be able to do it while the season is still in play.”

SNL aired a controversial sketch last weekend involving Tebow (watch it here). The sketch mocked Tebow’s Broncos and said Jesus had to constantly bail them out at the end of games. Unsurprisingly, the show was criticized by the Christian Right movement.

We know that Tebow is a good sport with a friendly personality, so he probably would be willing to host the program. Just don’t expect him to do anything during the season — teammate Eric Decker says it’s nearly impossible to get him out.

Tebow would join Peyton Manning and Tom Brady as other star quarterbacks who have hosted the show.
