When Jason Collins came out as gay in an article written for Sports Illustrated, he said one of the reasons for his announcement was so that he could do it on his terms and not be outed by a media gossip outlet. The exact sort of situation he was trying to avoid is happening with Kerry Rhodes.

Rhodes, an 8-year NFL veteran safety, denied being gay after pictures of him being close to another male hit the internet last month. The other man in the photos was his ex-assistant, who also claims to be Rhodes’ ex-boyfriend. Even though the story died down over the past six weeks, it was revived early Sunday when World Star Hip Hop posted a video and hyped it up by saying, “Another Professional Athlete Coming Out Of The Closet? Footage Of NFL Player “Kerry Rhodes” Laying In Bed With Another Man Released!”

The video is not at all damaging the way World Star makes it out to be. Sometimes guys who are traveling happen to be in the same hotel room and on a bed together at the same time, especially if they’re both trying to be on camera. But when you combine this video with the pictures and everything the ex-assistant has said, it’s just more supposed evidence that Rhodes is gay.

After watching the video, you’ll understand exactly why Collins handled his own announcement, and why it might be in the interest of other gay athletes to follow his lead rather than be faced with a Kerry Rhodes situation.

Porn star Jenna Jameson went on a major Twitter rant on Thursday in which she accused ex-boyfriend Tito Ortiz of being a drug addict who faked drug tests for the UFC. She also accused him of nearly killing her in February.

Jameson’s rant seems to be inspired by her anger over losing primary custody of their twin 4-year-old sons.

Jameson and Ortiz have a shaky history.

The two began dating in 2006, had children in 2009, and Ortiz was arrested for alleged domestic abuse in 2010 (both later recanted their allegations against each other). The two supposedly broke up last year, but they may have gotten back together before breaking up again. TMZ reported in April that Ortiz is the primary caretaker of their children because he believes Jameson is unfit to care for them. She also reportedly moved out of their Huntington Beach, Calif., home.

Tim Duncan and his wife of nearly 12 years are getting a divorce, and it seems like the San Antonio Spurs star had concerns that Amy was cheating on him.

According to San Antonio Express-News columnist Buck Harvey, Duncan had concerns about his wife last fall and hired a private investigator to follow her. Harvey also says Amy moved out of the couple’s home about a month ago.

Harvey says Duncan was not surprised about the divorce and that he was planning to file for one after the two worked out a settlement. He reportedly was surprised at the timing of Amy’s decision to file.

As we noted in a previous post, Duncan requested to have the legal discovery portion of the case delayed until after the playoffs ended. The Spurs have reached the NBA Finals and their season won’t end for another few weeks.

Tim and Amy met at Wake Forest where he played basketball and she was a cheerleader. They married on July 21, 2001, and they have two children together.

The Miami Heat have their hands full with the Indiana Pacers after dropping Game 4 on Tuesday night to even the Eastern Conference Finals at 2-2. Thanks to a gossip story from Lesley Abravanel of The Miami Herald, they could soon be dealing with some off-court drama as well.

According to Abravanel, a “spy” informed the Herald that a Heat player who is in a relationship has been sneaking off to an apartment complex after home games and having an affair. Since we don’t want to add any speculation of our own, here is the exact report:

We hear that a very taken Miami Heat player is having an affair with someone who lives in the King Cole condo in North Beach. Says our spy, ‘He’s there around midnight after every home game.’ Our spy isn’t exaggerating. According to security, this player has repeatedly shown up at midnight and after asking for a particular woman’s apartment. The thing is, that woman is not his significant other. Girlfriend shouldn’t be too shocked considering that not too long ago she was the one with whom her beloved baller was sneaking around.”

While we have certainly learned over the years that b.s. reports can come from absolutely anywhere, this particular story is not from some fly-by-night gossip website. Whether the information is accurate or not, people are going to take note of it since it has been printed on The Miami Herald’s website. Interpret it as you wish.

New York Mets pitcher Matt Harvey is off to a fantastic start to the 2013 season. He is 5-0 with a 1.93 ERA and has punched out 74 batters in 70 innings. The right-hander has been showing some nasty stuff on the field, but his best achievement may have come off the baseball diamond.

According to Us Weekly, Harvey is dating Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Anne Vyalitsyna. The 24-year-old pitcher and 26-year-old model reportedly met at a New York Rangers game, and Harvey sent out the following tweet not long after they were introduced.

Last Thursday, the couple was reportedly spotted having dinner together in New York City. They also attended another Rangers game together on May 23, which is where the photo you see above was taken. A source told Us Weekly that they are “taking things slow” because of their busy schedules.

Bottom line: beings 24 years old and an up and coming MLB ace ain’t so bad.

Tony Parker seems to have moved on from the long-term relationship he had with Eva Longoria. On Monday night, the San Antonio Spurs guard was spotted smooching his new girlfriend after his team swept the Memphis Grizzlies and punched its ticket to the NBA Finals.

The young lady is a French woman Axelle Francine, and Parker has reportedly been dating her since we introduced her to you last February. There have been very few public photos of the two since then, but @cjzero shared the one you see above on Monday. Axelle was also seen sitting with security at the game, as @katlyn2times pointed out:

Ryan Lochte was dumped by girlfriend Jaimee Holler over the phone and the development was shown on TV in the latest episode of E!’s “What Would Ryan Lochte Do?”

Holler, 23, was recently introduced to viewers of the TV show when she visited Lochte’s Florida home in a previous episode. Holler had been the swimmer’s long-distance girlfriend for four years.

According to the Daily Mail, Lochte and Holler agreed their long-distance relationship was problematic. Lochte apparently said they had to “either go all in or we’ll say our goodbyes, we just haven’t made a decision yet.”

While Lochte was out to dinner with his buddies, he got a call from Holler and knew it had to be serious. He even disconnected his mic and tried to shoo away the E! cameramen who were following him as he took the call outside.

The relationship between them could not have been too serious if Lochte’s mom said last year that her son didn’t have time for a girlfriend. Plus, if Lochte’s really in desperate need of a rebound, maybe he could give Carmen Electra a call.
