Did Pacman Jones use self-defense on woman? You make the call

Pacman Jones has been charged with assault for punching a woman at a bar in Cincinnati last week, but the Bengals cornerback is claiming that he acted in self-defense.

ESPN 1530 in Cincinnati obtained security footage of the incident, which allows us to review what happened.

It’s hard to tell exactly what was going on, but it looks like Pacman was walking along the sidewalk next to the bar’s outdoor patio. He stops to talk to a few people seated on the patio. As he’s talking with them, a woman who was standing against the wall of the bar approaches him and they begin to talk (or argue). Pacman leans over the rail to talk with the woman and points his finger at her. The woman then reaches out and sticks her beer bottle in Pacman’s face, almost like she wanted to pour it on him (screencap below).

Pacman Jones charged with assault for punching female, claims self defense

Since he entered the NFL in 2005, Pacman Jones has gotten into trouble about as much as an NFL player can get into trouble without destroying his career. Prior to this week, he had been able to keep a low profile for nearly two full years. However, Jones tweeted on Monday that he has been arrested and charged with assault.

Pacman-Jones-Says-He-Was-too-Immature-With-TitansJones broke the news with his tweet, and the Cincinnati Enquirer later confirmed that the Bengals cornerback has been arrested for allegedly punching a female outside a bar. As you can see from the message he sent to his roughly 30,000 followers, Jones is claiming self defense.

According to Pacman’s agent Peter Schaffer, Jones was at a bar after the Reds-Rockies game last Wednesday when he was attacked. Schaffer claims two women approached Jones and asked to have a picture taken with him, but he refused because he is married and doesn’t want photos of him with women floating around the internet.

After he turned the request down, Schaffer says someone threw a bottle at Jones so he turned around and slapped the person. He supposedly had no idea that a woman had thrown it.

“If this was anyone else they don’t charge him and they arrest the girl who threw the bottle, not the guy,” Schaffer said. “Given what Adam has been through with the legal process he has been incredibly positive and believes he will be vindicated.”

For whatever reason, trouble seems to find Jones. His most recent arrest, which took place in July 2011, brought us this classic mugshot that stemmed from a bar fight. Prior to that in October 2010, he was mistakenly arrested because police confused him with another man named Adam Jones. And before that — well, you can click here for a full recap of his checkered past. It never seems to stop.

Chad Johnson sentenced to 30 days in jail after slapping lawyer’s butt (Video)

Chad-Johnson-mugshotChad Johnson appeared in court on Monday to present a plea deal that would allow him to avoid jail time for a probation violation associated with his domestic violence case. He had already reached a deal with prosecutors that called for community service and counseling instead of jail, but things went south in a hurry with one of the most amazing court stories you will ever hear.

Broward County Circuit Judge Kathleen McHugh had reportedly accepted the deal, tacking on three additional months of probation because of meetings Johnson missed with his probation officer. McHugh then asked Johnson if he was satisfied with his lawyer Adam Swickle, and Johnson responded by patting Swickle on the butt. The gesture resulted in a laughing courtroom and a furious judge, and Johnson was quickly sentenced to 30 days in jail.

TMZ obtained a video of the butt slap and the exchange that followed:

Josh Brent tests positive for marijuana while awaiting manslaughter trial

Josh BrentDallas Cowboys defensive tackle Josh Brent tested positive for marijuana following a court hearing last month, the Associated Press reports. Brent, you will recall, killed his teammate Jerry Brown after crashing his car on Dec. 8 while allegedly driving drunk.

The positive test for marijuana came up because prosecutors were attempting to get Brent’s bond revoked due to problems with alcohol monitoring. Though the judge declined the motion, he did order a urine test after the May 24 hearing, which Brent failed.

“Given the defendant’s prior alcohol-related contacts and the severity of the charge in this case, it is the State’s belief that the defendant continues to pose a threat to the community,” prosecutors said in the motion.

[Related: Cowboys reportedly were partying at club before fatal car crash]

Brent is facing up to 20 years in prison if convicted of intoxicated manslaughter.

So the obvious thing to ask here is how dumb can Brent be? He’s already in enough trouble as is and now he goes out and tests positive for weed? But it’s not so simple to just question his lack of intelligence.

First off, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that a man with poor enough judgment to drive while extremely drunk would also smoke weed while awaiting trial. People who make bad decisions just make bad decisions. Also, he must be pretty stressed out knowing that he’s facing 20 years in jail. Smoking weed in response seems logical for a guy like that. I’m with the prosecutors in thinking he should have his bond revoked, though I know that will never happen.

Milton Bradley convicted of spousal abuse, faces 7 years in prison

milton-bradleyFormer MLB outfielder Milton Bradley was convicted of nine counts of physically attacking and threatening his estranged wife on Monday. According to the LA Times, prosecutors said the 35-year-old was found guilty of four counts of spousal battery, two counts of criminal threats, one count of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of vandalism and one count of brandishing a deadly weapon.

After being convicted, Bradley was taken into custody and held on $250,000 bail. He is scheduled to be sentenced on July 2 and could face more than seven years in prison.

Bradley and his wife have been married for five years but are currently separated. She has a restraining order against him that stems from several incidents of alleged violence. During one, Bradley’s wife claims he threatened to shoot and kill her. He was also arrested for allegedly swinging a baseball bat at her over a year ago.

In November 2012, authorities said Bradley pushed his wife against a wall and choked her with his hands after she asked that he stop smoking marijuana in front of their children. Prior to that incident, in March 2012, Bradley threatened his wife with a knife and allegedly told her, “You’ll be dead, bitch, before you divorce me.” He also allegedly kicked his wife in the ribs in August 2012 after she fell to the floor during an argument.

Bradley obviously has a massive issue with anger management, and we have seen evidence of it on the baseball field as well. If even half of what his wife alleges is true, the world is a safer place with Milton Bradley behind bars.

Seahawks G John Moffitt was reportedly banned from mall, returned and was caught urinating in parking lot

John-Moffitt-SeahawksSeattle Seahawks offensive guard John Moffitt may need a lesson on what the word “banned” means. According to Seattle PI, the 32-pound offensive guard was banned from Bellevue Square mall — and all properties owned by the same company — for one year starting on Jan. 21, 2012 because of unspecified incidents he was involved with. He decided to return to the mall five months later anyway, and was not exactly discreet about it.

On June 14, 2012, Bellevue Square security allegedly caught Moffitt urinating near a vehicle parked in the mall parking lot. Police arrived shortly thereafter and reportedly found two “very large males” running along the street. The police report obtained by Seattle PI said that an officer yelled for Moffit to stop, but the lineman looked right at him and ran into an apartment building.

A week later, Bellevue Square security guards were shown a photo of Moffitt and identified him as the dude who had taken a leak on a car. Moffitt was charged with criminal trespass and obstruction of justice. He had to miss Seahawks practice on Tuesday to appear in court for a hearing related to the incident.

But that wasn’t all. On Aug. 25, 2012, Moffitt was again caught trespassing at Lincoln Square mall in Bellevue, which is owned by the same company as Bellevue Square mall. He was reportedly escorted out of the bar and taken into custody.

“Once outside, two pairs of handcuffs were placed on Moffitt due to his large size and a recent shoulder injury,” a police report stated. “Both sets of handcuffs were checked for tightness, and all were double locked.”

The moral of the story is this: if you’re banned from a place for a year, find somewhere else to go. And if you absolutely must return for whatever reason, don’t piss on something when you get there.

Saints WR Joe Morgan arrested for DUI after reportedly sleeping in his car

Joe-Morgan-mug-shotNew Orleans Saints wide receiver Joe Morgan was arrested in Jefferson Parish over the weekend and charged with driving while under the influence, only he wasn’t really driving at the time. It’s probably fair to assume that he was operating a vehicle at some point before officers took him into custody, but Morgan was reportedly taking a nap at the time of his arrest.

According to The Times-Picayune, State Police booked Morgan after someone called in a report about a disabled vehicle on the side of the highway early Saturday morning. A responding trooper reportedly found Morgan sleeping behind the wheel of his car and asked him to step out. The officer said the 25-year-old receiver was swaying on his feet, smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes and seemed intoxicated.

It gets worse. Not only was Morgan deemed to be intoxicated after failing a field sobriety test, he also does not have a valid driver’s license.

Passed out on the side of the highway and drunk without a license? That’s what I call a double whammy.
