WWE planning big Ultimate Warrior tributes

Ultimate Warrior RAW speechThe WWE is planning two special tributes to wrestling legend The Ultimate Warrior, who died suddenly on Tuesday night.

Warrior, who was 54, collapsed while walking at an Arizona hotel. The previous night he appeared on “RAW” and he was also inducted into the Hall of Fame over the weekend.

WWE is planning to have a special tribute to him on the upcoming episode of RAW with much more than a blank screen RIP tribute. The tribute will most likely showcase his greatest moments.

The organization is also putting together a special that will air on the new network Wednesday that TMZ says is tentatively called “Warrior: The Ultimate Legend.”

Warrior is well deserving of the honors.

Bret Hart shares statement on Ultimate Warrior, expresses regret

Ultimate Warrior

Bret the Hitman Hart is the latest wrestler to pay his respect to The Ultimate Warrior.

The two faced each other back in the WCW days in the ’90s when Warrior teamed with Sting to beat Hart and Hulk Hogan. Hart said in his statement that he saw Warrior over the weekend at WrestleMania 30 and that he wish he had been kinder to him.

“I’m deeply saddened at the sudden passing of Jim Helwig, The Ultimate Warrior. I wish I’d been kinder to him in the last moments that we had this past weekend at WrestleMania 30,” Hart said over Twitter. “We did cross paths once or twice, but we were all so busy. I never went out of my way to see him, but if I could… I’d tell him he looked good. He looked content and he looked like he’d finally found happiness within his children and his wife.

“He never ever harmed me nor did we really work with one another… I wish we had. His final ring promo breaks my heart. I’ve many fond memories of times we shared, only now do they pile up in my head. I’d also tell him that he was right, he never was such a bad guy. My thoughts are with his wife and children. I never thought his time would be so short. I know one thing, I will never forget him.” – Bret

Hart is not the only wrestler to say that Warrior was not such a bad guy. Jake the Snake Roberts, Hulk Hogan and Kevin Nash have all paid their respects to the wrestling legend and put aside whatever feuds they may have had.

Nancy Grace implies Owen Hart died from steroid use; Mick Foley calls for apology

Owen-HartThe death of The Ultimate Warrior earlier this week has led to a lot of discussion about steroid use in professional wrestling. The WWE legend was just 54 years old when he collapsed outside a hotel in Arizona and died suddenly. Warrior, whose real name is James Hellwig, has admitted he used steroids during his wrestling career.

On Wednesday night, Nancy Grace had a segment on Headline News dedicated to drug use among current and former WWE wrestlers. During the coverage, a list ran that showed a number of wrestlers who died at a young age as Grace spoke with an expert about the dangers of anabolic steroids. One of the names on the list was Owen Hart.

Wrestling fans can tell you that Hart died at 33 in one of the most tragic and shocking accidents in WWE history. An equipment malfunction resulted in Hart falling to his death during a WWE pay-per-view event. Former wrestler Mark Curtis, who died of stomach cancer at 38, also appeared on the list.

While Grace did not say that Hart and Curtis died because of drug use, that was clearly the theme of the segment. WWE legend Mick Foley called for Grace to apologize.

And as The Big Lead noted, it is far too early to determine if steroid use was a contributing factor in The Ultimate Warrior’s death. While we certainly agree that steroid use is dangerous, throwing names of the deceased around and associating them with drug use is irresponsible journalism.

Undertaker reportedly suffered concussion, neck sprain at WrestleMania

Undertaker Wrestlemania

While we don’t believe that Brock Lesnar went off script at WrestleMania 30 Sunday when he beat The Undertaker and handed the giant his first loss at the huge event, the reports saying that Taker suffered a concussion and neck sprain during the match appear to be legitimate.

WrestleChat first posted about the rumor, which they picked up off a posting on a Reddit thread. Here’s what the Reddit user posted:

My dad works for WWE. He’s at WrestleMania right now. He said an ambulance just showed up to take the Undertaker to the hospital and Vince and Brock went with him. It sounds serious :(

Hacksaw Jim Duggan also tweeted about Taker possibly being hurt:

On top of that, someone on Twitter also said that their mother transported Undertaker and Brock’s manager Paul Heyman to the hospital.

Matt Boone at EWrestlingNews says he confirmed that Undertaker was taken to the hospital after the match, though he was unable to confirm reports of a possible concussion/neck sprain.

No, it doesn’t look like Lesnar beat Undertaker when he wasn’t supposed to, but he may have given Taker an injury during the match. It could have been on a single leg takedown when he got hurt.

Maybe Undertaker agreed to lose because his body can’t handle the wrestling anymore. At least that was the speculation from our wrestling insider Arsen D.
