Watch: Arkansas 1B Jared Gates makes awesome diving catch at CWS
Arkansas first baseman Jared Gates went all-out on a diving catch in Tuesday’s Game 1 of the College World Series against Oregon State.
The Beavers’ Zak Taylor was batting with one out in the bottom of the fifth and his team down 4-1. Taylor popped a ball up down the first base line, and Gates chased it down with a diving catch.

ESPN, which was televising the game, immediately marked it down as an “SC Top 10” contender.
The catch was a big one; the Beavers rallied with two straight hits after that. Had Taylor reached base in his at-bat, Oregon State might have put a run on the board.
