Adam Morrison returning to Gonzaga as a student assistant

Adam-Morrison-LakersAdam Morrison was the best player in the country when he led Gonzaga to the Sweet 16 back in 2006. In the NBA, not so much. Morrison averaged 28.1 points per game during his senior season at Gonzaga. He averaged just 7.5 points in limited time with the Charlotte Bobcats and Los Angeles Lakers in three NBA seasons. Now, Morrison is returning to his roots.

The former National Player of the Year is taking classes at Gonzaga and is expected to join the Bulldogs’ staff as a coaching assistant.

“He’ll be a student assistant,” Gonzaga coach Mark Few told CBSSports.com on Thursday. “It’ll be great. The players really respect him.”

Gonzaga is ranked 16th in the preseason polls, and Morrison can certainly help the team when it comes to experience playing in the West Coast Conference. While his NBA career was largely unsuccessful, Morrison was part of two Laker championship teams in 2009 and 2010. His success at the collegiate level combined with his experience playing with NBA champions should prove invaluable for the Bulldogs.
