Archie Miller did not want NC State job, according to his father

Archie Miller attended N.C. State and played there for four years, but when its coaching job became available, the Dayton coach said no thank you.

According to Miller’s father John, Archie turned down the N.C. State job due to a lack of trust in the administration.

“Yeah, everyone thought N.C. State, but I knew that wasn’t gonna happen,” John Miller said, via Tom Archdeacon of the Dayton Daily News. “He knows that place too well. You gotta have trust in the people above you that they’ll stand by you.”

While it wasn’t explicitly clear whether or not the Wolfpack formally approached Archie Miller, it does sound like the opportunity was considered and ultimately rejected.

In the end, Miller went to another, bigger school. It’s not a great reflection on N.C. State that Miller was pretty much uninterested in his alma mater.
