Arizona State students allegedly spit on Oregon coaches, players

ASU sparkyAn Oregon basketball coach and trainer say they were spit on after the Ducks’ 74-72 loss at Arizona State on Saturday and that their players were spit on during halftime of the game.

According to The Oregonian’s Andrew Greif, Ducks assistant coach Brian Fish and athletic trainer Clay Jamieson said after the game that an ASU student spit on them as they were walking to the locker room following the defeat. They declined to press charges, instead saying they just wanted the student who did it to be scared.

“I didn’t want any charges, just for him to be scared (witless),” Fish said via The Oregonian. “We all deserve second chances, he’s a college kid. But that was completely uncalled for.”

Fish also said the Ducks’ players were spit on as they headed to the locker room for halftime.

Apparently the setup at Wells Fargo Arena, where the Sun Devils play home games, has students flanking both ends of the tunnel where the opposing team walks. Oregon coach Dana Altman called that a security issue he thinks ASU should address.

Either that, or maybe the students just shouldn’t spit on other people. That really shouldn’t be too much to ask.
