Report: Dan Hurley potential candidate for Connecticut job

The Connecticut Huskies have a coaching vacancy for only the second time in three decades, and they may look to the coach of a nearby school to fill it.

According to Gary Parrish of CBS Sports, the Huskies are expected to take a look at Rhode Island coach Dan Hurley to replace Kevin Ollie, who was fired Saturday morning.

The Huskies will have competition if they decide that Hurley is their man, as the Pittsburgh Panthers are also expected to target the Rhode Island coach.

Despite their lack of recent success since their 2014 national title, the UConn job is a prestigious one. It wasn’t long ago that Ollie was being linked to the NBA, after all, so it should be a highly sought-after position. Hurley is headed for back-to-back tournament appearances with Rhode Island, so he has some experience, albeit not at such a high level.
