Former UCLA basketball player reportedly dead after police standoff
Former UCLA and NBA player Tyler Honeycutt was reportedly killed in a shootout with police early Saturday morning.
On Friday evening, the Los Angeles Police Department reported on a man with a gun barricaded in a home.
UPDATE: At approx 5pm Officers assigned to Van Nuys Division responded to a radio call of a Man with a Gun in the area of Riverside Drive & Tyrone Avenue. They made contact with the suspect, a male in his 20’s, and as they were communicating with the suspect an OIS occurred.

No officers were injured & all indications are that the suspect is still alive. He’s believe to be armed & barricaded inside of a residence. SWAT and our Crisis Negotiation Team is on scene. Evacuations have taken place & we expect street closures for several hours

On Saturday morning, officers gained access to the resident and found the suspect dead.
UPDATE: SWAT entered the residence & located an unresponsive male. LAFD responded & pronounced the male dead at scene. Investigators from our Force Investigation Division are at scene conducting a thorough investigation and we will provide more details as they become available

Various reports, including from the Los Angeles police scanner, indicated that the suspect was Honeycutt, a former UCLA standout who played in the NBA with the Sacramento Kings.

Honeycutt was a standout at UCLA, averaging 12.8 points and two blocks per game during his sophomore season of 2010-11, a year in which he was named co-MVP.
