Midwest Region is loaded and Wichita State really got screwed
Wichita State, which went undefeated in the regular season and won their conference tournament, did get a No. 1 seed from the NCAA Tournament selection committee. Unfortunately, they also got stuck with the toughest bracket of all.
The 34-0 Shockers get a play-in game winner in the first round, but they have to face the winner of Kentucky and Kansas in St. Louis in the second round. As if that weren’t bad enough, the four seed in their region is Louisville, the defending champs.
Rick Pitino said before the tournament selection was held that he believed Louisville deserved a No. 1 seed. They got a four. A freaking four seed.
Wichita State would have to beat Kentucky or Kansas State in the second round and likely Louisville in the Sweet 16. It doesn’t get much tougher than that.
Michigan is the two in the region, while Duke is the three, so those are the teams favored to reach the Elite Eight.
