Roy Williams sliced his hand cutting down the net

Roy-Williams-hand-injury

Roy Williams is heading to the Final Four this week for the eighth time in his coaching career. He has won two national national championships, three ACC Tournament championships at North Carolina and three Big 12 titles when he was at Kansas. You would think he would be a professional when it comes to cutting down the nets.

Yet, after his Tar Heels defeated Notre Dame Sunday night, Williams somehow sliced his finger while doing the honors.

Senior guard Marcus Paige told reporters he is hoping Williams’ injury is good luck, as this is not the first time the coach has bled in recent weeks.

“He should be used to cutting nets,” Paige joked, per Nicole Auerbach of USA Today Sports. “That’s something he’s done several times in his career.

“But couple of games ago he was bleeding as well. He came in the huddle and he was, like, guys I’ll bleed for you guys if you keep playing the way you’re playing. … It might be good luck. We’ll get him patched up, see if he starts bleeding again.”

Williams, who said he bit his tongue during Friday night’s win over Indiana in the Sweet 16 and was bleeding for an entire half, explained how he cut himself on Sunday.

“So, today I was up there cutting the net and I started to take a step back and felt the ladder moved a little bit, and I grabbed, and when I grabbed I grabbed the end of the scissors, started bleeding,” he said. “I’ve really got very good looking blood. It’s very bright, very deep colors.”

Fortunately, the injury didn’t stop North Carolina from enjoying its celebration, as this videobomb will show you. Williams might have to find a new way to bleed in the Final Four for the sake of his team.
