Shaquille Johnson arrested after fight stemming from dance-off

Shaquille-Johnson-mugshotLongwood University junior basketball player Shaquille Johnson was arrested earlier this month and charged with felony malicious wounding after an incident that took place at a party in Farmville, Va. What type of incident? Just your basic fight after a dance-off competition.

According to the Longwood Rotunda, Farmville Police Chief Doug Mooney said that Johnson punched a Hampden Sydney College student after they battled in some sort of dance-off. You can’t make this stuff up.

Mooney speculates Johnson was angered, or unhappy about the conclusion of the dance off and then allegedly struck Doman in the mouth knocking out several of his teeth. Doman was taken to the hospital shortly after the altercation.

“This is an example of what can happen at a party when you have alcohol involved,” Mooney Said. “The problems we see with Longwood students are almost always when alcohol is around. Alcohol was being used by people there, and it altered their judgment.”

Johnson, who began his collegiate career at Auburn, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana after his freshman season with the Tigers in 2013. He was dismissed from the team before transferring to Northwest Florida State College for his sophomore season and now Longwood for his junior year. The school said it is respecting due process and waiting for more details to be sorted out.

If Johnson takes his basketball as seriously as his dancing, he should be able to do some damage on the court.
