Texas Tech fan Jeff Orr has history of heckling, reportedly denies saying N-word

Marcus Smart is going to receive the brunt of the attention for going into the stands to shove a fan during Oklahoma State’s loss at Texas Tech on Saturday, but the fan who instigated the incident needs to be identified and called out in the same manner.

Jeff Orr Texas TechThe fan Smart went after is Jeff Orr, a 1983 Texas Tech graduate who is known for being one of the most passionate fans of the Red Raiders. An article was written about him in 2010 talking about how dedicated he is to the basketball and football programs. The guy drives roundtrip from Waco to Lubbock for games and puts on thousand of miles a year following the team around. But he’s not just some lovable fan who travels to watch his team; he actually has a reputation for getting himself involved in the action in inappropriate manners.

John Lucas III, who played for Baylor and Oklahoma State in college (both were conference opponents of Texas Tech) and is now with the Utah Jazz, tweeted Saturday that he recognized the fan as soon as he saw the video of Smart:

Then there’s this video, which shows Orr giving a Texas A&M player the f— you gesture in a separate incident:

So what did Orr say to set off Smart? The Cowboys guard supposedly was heard saying Orr called him the N-word.

However, Orr supposedly denies saying that.

CBS Sports’ Doug Gottlieb, who is a former Oklahoma State player, shared text messages he says Orr sent to a friend of his, who is a Texas Tech fan:

I have a hard time believing Orr in this situation. He’s in the national spotlight now and would probably never admit to saying something so despicable.

There are even more examples of racial heckling from Tech fans.

Former Oklahoma State player Desmond Mason said he was called the N-word every time he played in Lubbock.

I agree with Mason. You can’t let fan heckling get to you. If all athletes went after every disrespectful, name-calling fan out there, games would have to be halted before halftime because of all the fights. Athletes need to be above that and usually are.

But I did want to post this not to excuse Smart, but because I believe Orr needs to receive attention for what he has done. Being a passionate fan doesn’t give him the right to say whatever he wants. He seems to be a sick fan who goes way too overboard in support of his team.

Here we go, we got another mark. Im really getting sick of you sensitve people. You make me want to puke with your sensitve b.s. Blacks constantly use the word cracker and are racists but no one gives a damn about all that, thats all funny, but the second a white uses the N word, you people get all up in arms over it. Get a life people. If someone doesnt like blacks that is there right pal, Not everyone agrees with loving all these races who will stab you in the back when you turn around and rob you blind. Im sick of you people who think other people have to live by the same ideas as you.

Hope they suspend Marcus Smart the rest of the year

He is a child in a Chris Christie body.

Of course Smart needed to restrain himself but, clearly, Jeff Orr is an immature and classless idiot. Anyone who yells derogatory or inflammatory comments at a college kid needs psychological help. This clown is not a fan, he is a thug. I would like to see if he had the balls to say whatever he said to Smart in a parking lot with no one around.

I’m sick of people like you who try to justify racism by insisting that “they do it too” or “they do it worse.” The truth is obvious – you have very little to no personal experience with black people. So you can let your mind run wild with all of these theories about how racist they are, or how they are all criminals who will “rob you blind.” Grow up, get out of your isolated little bubble, and learn something about the world. My family is mixed – black and white. I am around a lot of black people in my life, as well as a lot of white people. I’ve met some racist white people. I’ve met some racist black people. But the vast majority of people are just PEOPLE who are just trying to live their lives. So yeah, there is a problem with the way you think. Your hatred is unjustified and based in ignorance. Your hatred holds back our country.

  • walkeradfa

Smart should’ve knocked his teeth out. Orr is a documented, serial offender. A grown man, heckling and belittling athletes in their teens with vulgarities and cursing, from more than one account and video I’ve seen. Good for you Smart, don’t put up with this lack of class and civility. This jackass deserves to be banned from future TT games – he does nothing but besmirch the school with this type of behavior.

  • walkeradfa

This is the United States – our constitution does NOT guarantee free speech that is damaging to others. Live with that, Joe, or move somewhere else.

Jeff Orr should be banned , he works for the FAA in Waco Texas as a air traffic controller, FAA has guidelines for conduct off and on the job, he needs to be fired our tax dollars pays his salary..

  • precept151

After seeing this video and the video from 2010, that Orr dude needs to be removed from all games. He’s a disgusting example of a super-fan and Texas Tech should be embarrassed to hold this man in such high esteem at their school. Smart deserves his punishment. He shouldn’t have lowered himself to Orr’s standard and lose his cool. Violence isn’t the answer. But, Orr should be banned for life since he’s an habitual offender. He looks like such a jack*** in that 2010 video. I couldn’t believe it!

  • Carol Mitchell

Great point. Jeff Orr is someone who lives his sporting life through a diploma. Jeff Orr is the Harvery Updyke of Lubbock. Anything he can do to get his name in lights, he will do. No matter what the cost, he is all about, ‘Hey, look at me!!” I know how Gundy felt, this makes me wanna puke.

  • Carol Mitchell

My spelling looks like Jeff Orr. Harvey Updyke is what I meant to say. Tech should now follow suit with what Ok State did and ask Ms Orr to disassociate himself from the university. Oh, btw, the NCAA is going to launch an invetigation into the men’s programs at Tech. Thanks Jeff!!!!!

  • Patrick Pfeifley

At the beginning when the story broke, I thought for sure this guy was a ignorant racist, and I felt for Smart. But the more I reed into it, and the go pro sound, it doesn’t seem he did say anything racist, but we can’t be sure. If he did say something racist, then this is a sad story, and Smart is getting the brunt of the punishment, while this man can cower behind the scenes. After listening to Smart’s press conference, he seemed sincerely apologetic, and left us with the belief that Orr didn’t say anything racist, and that he (Smart) lost his temper. If this is true, and Smart only used the race card because he knew he really messed up by pushing a fan, this has much larger ramifications. We will probably never know, but if Smart did lie about the racial slurs, and cried wolf, to help his situation, that is a much worse and should hold a much stiffer penalty. Those are very large accusations in my opinion, and should not be swept under the rug. Either the guy said racial slurs, and should be exposed, or Smart lied, using slander with a very fragile topic.

Dispatcher: OK, and this guy — is he black, white or Hispanic?

    Zimmerman: He looks black.

The altered NBC News version simply ran this way:

Zimmerman: This guy looks like he’s up to no good. He looks black.

I agree that Fox has conservative commentators at night, which are programs that share opinions. But their daily anchors are a far cry from bias ways of MSNBC reporting. MSNBC is the worst, when it comes to reporting what they want you to hear.

  • Patrick Pfeifley

So all the evidence is now overwhelming that Smart’s claim that Orr made a racist comment or comments are false. Granted we don’t know for sure, the evidence is much more overwhelming than just the allegations that were made. According to the go pro sound bite, and the fact there was a African American women sitting behind him that was interviewed, and said their were no racial slurs said. It is becoming obvious that Smart lost his temper and in result used the race card as a last line of defense, knowing he made a terrible mistake. Now it seems apparent that OSU wants this to go away, and will not make further comments. Let me state that I do not feel bad for a 55 year old man that goes to college games to heckle college athletes. Sure calling him a “piece of crap” is bad, but nothing close to the “N” word or “go back to Africa” which were the claims. He doesn’t deserve millions of people thinking he is a racist either. Marcus Smart owes him a different apology, than the one given in his press conference. He needs to apologize for going back to his bench and telling his teammates and coaches he said these things. And making america believe he is a racist. If not, he needs to stand by his claims if they are true, and better explain himself. Not just apologize for pushing him. It blows my mind how we all, me included, can jump to conclusions and throw this guy under the bus. Why is the same frustration of the allegations, not expressed when we find them false?

At first I thought we were discussing the racial allegations, and then it turned into FOX news. I am not sure how this got political? We are now talking about how many ex-wives these guys have? So your saying divorced people have some inherit evil? So its okay to get a bj in the oval office? Is that right “honey”? Will just chalk that up to being married to a lesbian. Here is a list of your beloved parties discrepancies, and I will try and just stick with the current administration.

    1. IRS targets Obama’s enemies: The IRS targeted conservative and pro-Israel groups prior to the 2012 election. Questions are being raised about why this occurred, who ordered it, whether there was any White House involvement and whether there was an initial effort to hide who knew about the targeting and when.

    2. Benghazi: This is actually three scandals in one:

The failure of administration to protect the Benghazi mission.

The changes made to the talking points in order to suggest the attack was motivated by an anti-Muslim video

The refusal of the White House to say what President Obama did the night of the attack

    3. Watching the AP: The Justice Department performed a massive cull of Associated Press reporters’ phone records as part of a leak investigation.

    4. Rosengate: The Justice Department suggested that Fox News reporter James Rosen is a criminal for reporting about classified information and subsequently monitored his phones and emails.

    5. Potential Holder perjury I: Attorney General Eric Holder told Congress he had never been associated with “potential prosecution” of a journalist for perjury when in fact he signed the affidavit that termed Rosen a potential criminal.

    6. The ATF “Fast and Furious” scheme: Allowed weapons from the U.S. to “walk” across the border into the hands of Mexican drug dealers. The ATF lost track of hundreds of firearms, many of which were used in crimes, including the December 2010 killing of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry.

    7. Potential Holder Perjury II: Holder told Congress in May 2011 that he had just recently heard about the Fast and Furious gun walking scheme when there is evidence he may have known much earlier.

    8. Sebelius demands payment: HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius solicited donations from companies HHS might regulate. The money would be used to help her sign up uninsured Americans for ObamaCare.

    9. The Pigford scandal: An Agriculture Department effort that started as an attempt to compensate black farmers who had been discriminated against by the agency but evolved into a gravy train delivering several billion dollars in cash to thousands of additional minority and female farmers who probably didn’t face discrimination.

    10. GSA gone wild: The General Services Administration in 2010 held an $823,000 training conference in Las Vegas, featuring a clown and a mind readers. Resulted in the resignation of the GSA administrator.

    11. Veterans Affairs in Disney World: The agency wasted more than $6 million on two conferences in Orlando. An assistant secretary was fired.

    12. Sebelius violates the Hatch Act: A U.S. special counsel determined that Sebelius violated the Hatch Act when she made “extemporaneous partisan remarks” during a speech in her official capacity last year. During the remarks, Sebelius called for the election of the Democratic candidate for governor of North Carolina.

    13. Solyndra: Republicans charged the Obama administration funded and promoted its poster boy for green energy despite warning signs the company was headed for bankruptcy. The administration also allegedly pressed Solyndra to delay layoff announcements until after the 2010 midterm elections.

    14. AKA Lisa Jackson: Former EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson used the name “Richard Windsor” when corresponding by email with other government officials, drawing charges she was trying to evade scrutiny.

    15. The New Black Panthers: The Justice Department was accused of using a racial double standard in failing to pursue a voter intimidation case against Black Panthers who appeared to be menacing voters at a polling place in 2008 in Philadelphia.

    16. Waging war all by myself: Obama may have violated the Constitution and both the letter and the spirit of the War Powers Resolution by attacking Libya without Congressional approval.

    17. Biden bullies the press: Vice President Biden’s office has repeatedly interfered with coverage, including forcing a reporter to wait in a closet, making a reporter delete photos, and editing pool reports.

    18. AKPD not A-OK: The administration paid millions to the former firm of then-White House adviser David Axelrod, AKPD Message and Media, to promote passage of Obamacare. Some questioned whether the firm was hired to help pay Axelrod $2 million AKPD owed him.

    19. Sestak, we’ll take care of you: Former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel used Bill Clinton as an intermediary to probe whether former Rep. Joe Sestak (D-Pa.) would accept a prominent, unpaid White House advisory position in exchange for dropping out of the 2010 primary against former Sen. Arlen Specter (D-Pa.).

    20. I’ll pass my own laws: Obama has repeatedly been accused of making end runs around Congress by deciding which laws to enforce, including the decision not to deport illegal immigrants who may have been allowed to stay in the United States had Congress passed the “Dream Act.”

    21. The hacking of Sharyl Attkisson’s computer: It’s not clear who hacked the CBS reporter’s computer as she investigated the Benghazi scandal, but the Obama administration and its allies had both the motive and the means to do it.

    22. An American Political Prisoner: The sudden decision to arrest Nakoula Basseley Nakoula on unrelated charges after protests in the Arab world over his anti-Muslim video is an extraordinarily suspicious coincidence. “We’re going to go out and we’re going to prosecute the person that made that video,” Hillary Clinton allegedly told the father of one of the ex-SEALs killed in Banghazi.

    23. Get rid of inconvenient IGs: Corporation for National and Community Service Inspector General Gerald Walpin was fired in 2009 as he fought wasteful spending and investigated a friend of Obama’s, Sacramento Mayor and former NBA player Kevin Johnson. The White House says Walpin was incompetent.

    24. Influence peddling: An investigation is underway of Alejandro Mayorkas, director of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, who has been nominated by Obama for the number two post at the Department of Homeland Security. Mayorkas may have used his position to unfairly obtain U.S. visas for foreign investors in company run by Hillary Clinton’s brother, Anthony Rodman.

These are all serious allegations, and come with merit. Unlike your name calling and uninformed blabbering. Would you like me to continue “dear”?

Agreed. The construction and maintenance of the Berlin Wall severely hampered – not to mention downright separated – Germany.
So, Double-P, by your Tea Party ill-logic, you want America to build a “Berlin Wall” of its own on the border with Meheeco (sic) to … further freedum (sic), liburty (sic), and deregulated free-market (sic) capitalism in Merika (sic)?
That ole’ left-wing (sic) Commie (sic) (and probably “Kenyan anti-colonialist” {sic}) George Patton once said: “Fixed fortifications are monuments to the stupidity of man. Has any federal court held anyone in contempt for any of John P. Normanson’s burps of ill-logic that you’ve taken such pains to post above?
All it takes is one. Just one.

  • Patrick Pfeifley

Keep drinking the Kool-aid. They are not “Michelle Malkin’s theories”. She is just a strong minded independent women that scares Democrats. Especially since she is not one of your crazy old white guys, that is plotting to take over the world. You feel threaten when a minority doesn’t go along with your race mongers like Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton. It’s a little hard when stonewalled, because most of the people whom should be indicted won’t testify due to “National Security”. Its going to be very interesting when Leon Panetta retires and is subpoenaed. Unless he lies under oath like Holder of course, which has been proven. Bipartisan groups are asking for Holdred to resign. But it will be interesting to hear that the President covered up benghazi to help him win the election.

Here are some characters who have been indicted or that are under investigation however. Many of them are felons.

Here is a list of shady characters that have been associated with the President:

    1. Former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich: Sentenced to 14 years in prison for political corruption.

    2. Tony Rezko: Sentenced to 10 and a half years for corruption and kickbacks.

    3. Courtney Dupree: Democratic fundraiser convicted of bank fraud.

    4. Willie Shepherd: Obama bundler plead guilty to assault.

    5. John Corzine: Top Obama fundraiser currently under FBI investigation. Obama’s “Wall Street guy.”

    6. Shervin Neman: Obama bundler currently under investigation for fraud.

    7. Abake Assongba: Obama bundler under investigation for fraud.

    8. Alberto and Carlos Cardona: Obama bundlers with ties to a Mexican fugitive accused of attempted assassinations.

    9. Solyndra: First company to receive taxpayer backed loans from Obama. Solyndra’s investors are Obama bundlers. The FBI recently raided Solyndra.

    10. Bill Ayers: Unrepentant domestic terrorist. Early Obama backer. Fellow board-member of the Woods Foundation. 4th of July pal.

  • Patrick Pfeifley

I never said I wanted a wall. In fact I was poking fun of the wall. The (Socialist) German Democratic Republic built the wall. The border is being exploited by both parties. Neither Bush or Obama have done anything to solve this problem. Some would say “White, Republican, big business” wants to exploit Mexicans for cheap labor. And others say the Democrats are exploiting them for their votes. Arguments can be made for both sides. If they really wanted to secure the border they could. If they can keep North Korea out of South Korea for 50 years half way around the world, I think they could secure our own border if they wanted. The problem is in today’s world we do need to know who is crossing our borders. Unfortunately we don’t live in your candy land utopia.

  • NepotismIsDomesticTerrorism

Are you now claiming that Tony Rezko was involved in Benghazi?
Or do you mean that Abake Assongba tapped into Jimmy Rosen’s Fox feed?
Maybe you claim Willie Shepherd oversaw Fast & Furious?
Lemme guess, you think Blago supervised the IRS?
No, Johnny Corzine was behind Pigford, right?
And which one of these individuals served in the Obama administration?
    Documents and citations, please.

  • NepotismIsDomesticTerrorism

“I think they could secure our own border if they wanted…”

And how would “they” go about this, honey? Be specific. Complete the partially Cheney-Dubya built fixed fortification? Drones? Land mines? Snipers? More border security agents? Marines? Texas Rangers? Army Rangers? Sheriff Joe? Academi (formerly Blackwater) mercenaries? How much would it cost – to the dollar? How would said money be raised to pay said cost?

C’mon, honey, spell it all out for us. Exactly what you would do. Exactly how much it would cost. Exactly how you would pay for it.

Word for word, dollar for dollar, or just gonna have to keep whipping you like the Blind Tea Party dawg that you are, honey.
