Akron football player shoots teammate Andrew Pratt by accident
An Akron football player is recovering after being accidentally shot in the stomach by a teammate early Saturday morning.
Zips wide receiver Andrew Pratt was shot in the stomach by teammate Scott Boyett after entering Boyett’s apartment around 3 a.m. Pratt apparently came in unannounced and without knocking, leading Boyett, an offensive lineman, to think he was a burglar.
Boyett ended up taking his teammate to the hospital after seeing what he had accidentally done.
“We are saddened and concerned to learn of this situation and we hope that Andrew recovers fully,” Akron’s AD Larry Williams said in a statement Saturday. “While we know the incident occurred at an off-campus location, we will wait to learn more from the Akron Police Department about what occurred. We are keeping Andrew in our thoughts and prayers.”
The police and prosecutors will not be filing charges after determining it was an accident. Both men told police the same story, leading them to believe the shooting genuinely was an accident.
