Alabama would take Everett Golson, does not think SEC will clear him

Everett Golson

Alabama would take Everett Golson if he transferred to the school, but they do not think the SEC would grant him a transfer waiver, according to a report.

Golson has been touring various campuses and has one year of eligibility left since graduating from Notre Dame. He has visited Florida State, Florida and Georgia this week, and even Alabama is in the mix for him.

According to ESPN’s Brett McMurphy, Bama does not expect the SEC to grant Golson a transfer waiver. There are quite a few reasons. For one, Golson was kicked out of school at Nore Dame for cheating in one of his academic courses. That violates the fourth criterion of SEC’s graduate transfer rule, which states: “The student-athlete has not been subject to official university or athletics department disciplinary action at any time during enrollment at any previous collegiate institution (excluding limited discipline applied by a sports team).”

Additionally, the SEC does not grant transfer waivers to student-athletes with less than two years of eligibility remaining unless they can prove hardship or their previous school dropped their sport.

Based on those two issues, it would be difficult to imagine Golson being cleared by the SEC. Florida State is being deemed the favorite to land Golson.
