Art Briles joins CFL’s Tiger-Cats as assistant head coach

Art Briles

Art Briles has landed a coaching gig, but fans of American football will not be seeing the former Baylor head coach on the sidelines at any point in the near future.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League announced on Monday that Briles is joining the team as an assistant head coach under June Jones. The CFL season is already underway, and the Tiger-Cats are off to an 0-8 start. Jones, a former Hawaii and SMU head coach, was named to the same position with the Tiger-Cats just last week.

The CFL season wraps up in November, so it’s possible Briles is just looking for some exposure after he spent the entire 2016 season away from football. As we know, the former Bears coach has been named in some of the disturbing lawsuits against Baylor that have included explosive allegations against former players.

While Briles has not gotten into any actual legal trouble, programs have been hesitant to associate with him. It remains to be seen if that will change in the coming months or years.
