Barry J. Sanders transferring to Oklahoma State

Barry Sanders Stanford

Barry J. Sanders, the son of Hall of Famer Barry Sanders, is transferring to his father’s alma mater.

The younger Sanders, who has spent the last three seasons at Stanford, will transfer to Oklahoma State, the same school his dad attended, and be cleared to play one season immediately as a graduate transfer.

So, how much of an influence did dad have on the decision?

“His message to me was to keep an open mind,” the younger Sanders said of his father, via Kyle Fredrickson of The Oklahoman. “I think that he would have wanted me to look at more schools. He definitely didn’t want me to make a decision without considering other options. What I told him was that this was something I’ve been thinking about for some time. I just knew this was the right decision and the right fit for a variety of different reasons.

“So when I kind of explained my reasons behind it, he was pretty comfortable with it and he’s just as excited as I am.”

Sanders tallied 664 yards and five touchdowns over three seasons at Stanford, largely backing up Christian McCaffrey. He will likely compete for the starting job at Oklahoma State. And hey, the kid has some skills just like his old man did.
