Ex-Michigan St LB: Harbaugh ‘hasn’t done anything yet’ at Michigan

Jim Harbaugh

Jim Harbaugh is taking heat from all comers this offseason.

After going 8-5 last season with losses in their final three games, Harbaugh has been faced with criticism of underachieving. Former Michigan State linebacker Chris Frey can be added to the chorus of critics.

Frey was on the radio in Lansing Monday and talked about the coaches in the Big Ten. He said that the Wolverines coach “hasn’t done anything yet.

“Urban Meyer is a great coach, he’s doing a great job at Ohio State, but Jim Harbaugh hasn’t done anything yet,” Frey said on “The Drive with Jack and Tom” on WQTX-92.1 FM in Lansing, via MLive.com. “And he needs to beat Ohio State or Michigan (State) before they can even give him any respect.”

Frey, who signed with the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent, went 3-1 against Michigan during his college career, which is no doubt a source of pride for him. In three seasons under Harbaugh, the Wolverines have gone 0-3 against rival Ohio State and 1-2 against Michigan State.

Harbaugh instantly brought the Wolverines back to respectability in his first season, but he blew a game to Michigan State on a blocked punt and then got blown out by rival Ohio State. They began the next season 9-0 and looked to be a serious contender until losing to Iowa and then falling to Ohio State and Florida State in the bowl. Last year, everything fell off after quarterback Wilton Speight got hurt. Harbaugh is entering his fourth season under immense pressure, and even the internal expectations are high.
