Christian Hackenberg declares for NFL Draft, thanks everyone but James Franklin
Penn State quarterback Christian Hackenberg rather unsurprisingly declared for the NFL Draft after the team’s bowl loss on Saturday, but what he didn’t say afterward raised some eyebrows.
Hackenberg thanked many of those who had been influential in his career. He thanked the fans, his quarterback coach, the trainer, the strength staff, the video coordinator, his former offensive coordinator, and even former coach Bill O’Brien. One name was missing: current coach James Franklin.

Franklin has been criticized for stagnating Hackenberg over the last two years since he became head coach, and some believe that Hackenberg could be even better if he had a different coach. Perhaps this is simply an honest mistake, or perhaps Hackenberg feels the same way as those critics do.
