ESPN reporter Brett McMurphy apologizes for tweet about Joe Mixon video

ESPN reporter Brett McMurphy apologized for a tweet he sent and deleted about the Joe Mixon punch video.

The video, which shows Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon punching a woman in 2014, was released on Friday and received with much horror (video can be seen here). Mixon, who is being sued by the woman he punched, was suspended for the 2014 season because of the punch.

McMurphy sent tweets in response to Oklahoma fans seemingly defending the video, including this one, which he later deleted:

McMurphy sent this statement apologizing for the tweet:

“I deleted an earlier tweet that was part of a series of tweets I put out in response to what I considered to be a misguided group of some fans who seemed to be supportive of the horribly violent act captured on the Mixon video released tonight. Even in that context, my attempted sarcasm as a response to the blind loyalty fans were showing in the face of the horrific video was not the best way to make a point on something so sensitive. I apologize.”

McMurphy’s tweet may have been inappropriate, but at least he did own it and apologize for it pretty quickly.
