Everett Golson’s QB coach: LSU transfer rumors are not true

Everett-Golson

Everett Golson is scheduled to graduate from Notre Dame in May, but he has one year of eligibility remaining. If he chooses to remain with the Irish for another season, he’ll likely find himself behind sophomore Malik Zaire on the depth chart. Will that inspire him to transfer?

On Monday, a report surfaced claiming Golson has reached out to LSU about a potential transfer. Golson seemingly denied the rumor on Twitter, and so did his quarterback coach, George Whitfield Jr.

If Golson and LSU did have mutual interest, there would be some hoops to jump through. Since Golson was declared academically ineligible for the 2013 season, he would need a waiver to be able to transfer into the SEC after graduating.

While it’s unclear if Golson is actually interested in transferring, it would be hard to imagine Brian Kelly giving him his starting job back. Zaire looked like the better player in Notre Dame’s bowl win over LSU.

And for what it’s worth, LSU’s quarterback situation was a mess all season. Golson could present an upgrade over Anthony Jennings if he can limit turnovers.
