George Whitfield responds to Vance Bedford’s Johnny Manziel tweet
Johnny Manziel’s personal quarterback coach George Whitfield responded Monday to the tweets sent by Texas defensive coordinator Vance Bedford about the former Heisman Trophy winner.
On Sunday, Bedford tweeted that Manziel played “backyard ball” at Texas A&M in college and that he would have to learn to become a real QB in the NFL, where spread offense quarterbacks don’t have as much success.
Manziel’s agent, Erik Burkhardt, tweeted that Bedford “better learn how to coach in a real conference” in response:
@CoachBedfordUT has been in "All-American Conference" the last 4 yrs. I wish him luck. Better learn how to coach in a real conference.

Whitfield responded by essentially saying that Bedford ought to worry more about himself and his program than Manziel.
“I’m just surprised he would have the time to tweet about it given (what) the Longhorns passed to him with their defense,” Whitfield said on ESPN.
Texas allowed 25.8 points per game last season, which ranked 57th in the country, and they fired Manny Diaz early in the season. Yeah, I’d say Bedford will have a lot more to worry about than Manziel.
