Gus Malzahn critical of SEC Network for trying to get coaches fired

Gus Malzahn

The SEC Network has allowed fans of the most popular conference in college football to enjoy more coverage of their favorite teams, but Auburn coach Gus Malzahn feels the tone of the ESPN-owned venture has become too negative these days.

While speaking at the American Football Coaches Association Convention in Charlotte on Tuesday, Malzahn shared some of his thoughts about the SEC Network. He said he was a fan of the concept when it launched in 2014, but he feels analysts who work for the network are now committed to getting coaches fired.

Malzahn didn’t mention anyone by name or site specific examples, but he must feel that negative media coverage is one of the reasons so many SEC coaches lost their jobs this season. There has been a ton of turnover within the conference over the past month or two, and there were even rumors at one point that Malzahn could be a part of it.

In all likelihood, Malzahn is referring to one or two analysts that he feels are too negative. He’s been around long enough to know that talk of coaches being on the hot seat isn’t exclusive to the SEC Network, so you’d have to think he has taken issue with someone in particular.
