Report: Jameis Winston ‘seriously considering’ returning to Florida State

Jameis WinstonJameis Winston has been viewed for the past several months as a potential No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft, but that depends on whether or not Winston goes pro.

Yahoo Sports reported Tuesday that the quarterback is “seriously considering” returning to Florida State for his redshirt junior season. Yahoo’s Rand Getlin says Winston’s “camp has taken material steps to pave the way” for him to return to school.

Winston has not made any decisions yet on his future, and his father said the quarterback will not announce his decision until after the National Championship Game on Monday.

As an underclassmen, Winston has until Jan. 15 to declare for the draft.

Though Winston led Florida State to a 13-1 season, he regressed statistically from his Heisman Trophy-winning redshirt freshman season. Winston had a lower completion percentage, fewer passing yards, fewer touchdowns, more interceptions and fewer rushing yards this season. He also threw 18 interceptions. When you combine his on-field performance with his off-field issues, staying in school to improve in all aspects might be a good thing for him.
