Josh Rosen critical of himself for ‘stupid mistakes’

Josh Rosen

Josh Rosen was hard on himself after UCLA’s 48-45 loss at Memphis on Saturday.

Rosen was 34 of 56 for 463 yards and four touchdowns in the game, but he also made some critical errors. He threw two interceptions — one was a pick-six, and the other happened when UCLA was down three and in field goal range late in the fourth quarter.

After the game, the junior QB took responsibility for his errors and said that his bad plays were the result of him trying to do too much.

In addition to the interceptions, Rosen had a play on UCLA’s final drive where he threw an ill-advised pass on which his wide receiver committed pass interference to prevent the defender from intercepting it. That could have made it three turnovers.

Rosen put up big stats for the Bruins once again and made some beautiful throws. However, just as Rosen said after the game, it was evident he was trying to do too much in certain situations. If he can learn to throw the ball away rather than try and make something happen when it’s not there, he and the Bruins will be much better off.
