Josh Shaw did fall from a balcony

Josh Shaw USC Trojans

USC cornerback Josh Shaw admitted on Wednesday that he lied about saving his 7-year-old nephew from a swimming pool, but not every detail of his story was fabricated. While all the stuff about Shaw being a hero was complete BS, there was indeed a balcony involved.

Shaw’s lawyer, Donald Etra, told the New York Times that the 22-year-old “fell from a third-floor balcony” at an apartment building in downtown LA. Etra refused to explain what led to the alleged fall, but he insisted there was no criminal activity.

“So far, there’s nothing criminal about this whatsoever,” Etra explained. “We are not discussing details. Suffice it to say, he fell, didn’t tell the truth and made a mistake. Now he wants to move on with his life.”

The NY Times added that moving on may not be as simple as Shaw wants it to be, as Los Angeles police detectives say they want to speak with him about what happened that night.

What we have heard so far is that police responded to a call about a woman screaming at the apartment complex where Shaw’s girlfriend lives. They found an empty apartment where the noise was heard when they arrived, and witnesses claimed to have seen a man matching Shaw’s description shimmying across third-floor balconies.

Obviously, something doesn’t add up. I highly doubt Shaw told the story about saving his nephew for the sole purpose of being viewed as a hero. He has something else to hide, in all likelihood.
