Lamar Jackson says Johnny Manziel gave him some advice

Lamar Jackson

Former Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel hung out with Lamar Jackson on Saturday night after the Louisville quarterback became the latest recipient of the award. And, brace yourselves, Manziel apparently gave the 19-year-old some advice.

During an interview with “The Dan Patrick Show” on Monday, Jackson was asked about some of the people he spoke to after he was named college football’s best player. He mentioned Manziel.

“Johnny Manziel, he was telling me a lot of positive things,” Jackson said. “He came by my room, too. He was just telling me, ‘Man, have fun in college. You only can stay here a certain amount of time. Just have fun with it.'”

Gulp.

The advice Manziel probably didn’t give Jackson is that the fun eventually needs to stop — at least the type of fun Manziel had and continues to have to this day. The former Cleveland Browns quarterback is far, far from the player you want to model your career after.

That actually wasn’t the first piece of advice Manziel gave Jackson, though the other words of wisdom aren’t really something Jackson can control. If Jackson wants to repeat his success at Louisville next season and go on to enjoy a respectable NFL career, he needs to try his best to not be like Manziel.
