Lane Kiffin rejects Nick Saban’s public criticisms of assistant coaches
Lane Kiffin continues to make very clear that he and Nick Saban have very different coaching methods.
The current Florida Atlantic coach and former Alabama offensive coordinator had a very firm answer when asked Tuesday if he intended to treat his assistant coaches the same way Saban treated his.
“No, that’s not really how I do it. Greg (McElroy) knows about those,” Kiffin said, via Mark Heim of al.com. “Those things come up, and everybody has different ways of dealing with them. It’s just not really how I do it. I’m not really big on humiliating assistant coaches in front of everybody. I write down notes. In the staff meeting, I explain what we want to get done.”
“Humiliating” is a strong word, but you have to think Kiffin knew what he was doing given some of the quotes he gave toward the end of his Alabama tenure. It’s quite clear that there was never any real warmth between Kiffin and Saban. That hasn’t changed since the two parted ways.
