LSU names new players’ lounge after Tyrann Mathieu

Tyrann Mathieu

Tyrann Mathieu has come a long way since he was kicked off the LSU football team. For evidence of that, look no further than the school’s decision to name a new facility after the NFL star.

According to Ross Dellenger of The Advocate, LSU is naming its new players’ lounge the Mathieu Players’ Lounge in honor of the man Tigers fans once knew as the “Honey Badger.” Mathieu made a $1 million donation to the LSU football program last fall, and much of that money is being used to renovate the team’s complex and lounge area.

LSU’s weight room is already named after Mathieu’s teammate, Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson, who made a $1 million contribution of his own previously.

Mathieu slipped to the third round of the NFL Draft in 2013 after he was kicked off the LSU football team for reportedly failing multiple drug tests. He spent some time in rehab while missing an entire season. He’s now one of the best defensive backs in football and a great example of someone who made the most of a second chance.
