LSU’s Tyrann Mathieu Calls Florida’s Trey Burton ‘Soft as Cotton’

Tyrann Mathieu has quickly emerged as one of the best defensive backs in all of college football. Mathieu is the anchor of a defensive backfield that held 17th-ranked Florida to only 11 points in a blowout victory over the weekend. Through the first half of the season, the Tigers have looked to be in a class of their own. Mathieu is a big reason for their level of play.

Despite their success, Florida wide receiver Trey Burton made a comment about the LSU secondary not being “as good as advertised” after the game. Naturally, Mathieu took offense to that and sent out this tweet, which CBSSports.com’s Eye on College Football blog shared with us.

It is important to point out that Burton caught exactly three passes for 14 yards, so apparently the LSU secondary gave him a pretty tough time.  Also, the Gators threw for 100 yards as a team.  If LSU’s secondary isn’t that great, I’d hate to see how Florida will perform against good defensive backs.
