Michigan recruiting target describes a Jim Harbaugh sleepover

Jim Harbaugh Michigan

Jim Harbaugh has been going the extra mile to bring recruits to Michigan, even having sleepovers with some of his targets. But what, exactly, happens at a Jim Harbaugh recruiting sleepover?

Four-star defensive lineman Connor Murphy was the subject of one, and he told Arizona’s Sports360’s Brad Cesmat’s Football AZ what they’re like.

“He got to my house around 1 a.m., we ate some banana bread and drank some ice cold milk,” said Murphy, via Eye on College Football. “That’s his favorite, 2 percent milk, so we made sure to give him a whole gallon of that. We chatted it up probably for another hour and then hit the hay.”

If that wasn’t enough, Harbaugh accompanied Murphy to class the next morning.

“This morning, he drove with me in my truck for school,” said Murphy. “That was a lot of fun, all the kids in my school they were all outside with their Michigan sweatshirts on outside. It was fun, it was a blast for sure.

“He was in my English class with me. We’re working on a blog post in English class and he was editing my blog and giving me advice.”

So Jim Harbaugh loves 2 percent milk and is an accomplished blog editor in his spare time. Noted.

In all seriousness, this stuff matters to recruits. How can you not love a coach taking such an interest in you? Murphy isn’t the only potential recruit Harbaugh has had a sleepover with, either. It’s one thing to fly out and chat with a recruit for a couple of hours and move on. It’s another to spend the night at their house and help them in English class.
