Michigan State reportedly accuses Ohio State of doctoring game tape

After Michigan State lost at home to Ohio State 17-16 on Saturday, the Spartans reportedly called into question the Buckeyes’ gamesmanship during the week leading up to the game.

While speaking outside the Michigan State locker room after the game, MSU defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi said, “We had tape cut off all week, where they changed the tape, I’m not gonna lie to you,” according to the Detroit Free Press. “They send you tape and they’ve got it all cut off and you don’t get to see shifts or motions or anything else.”

The Big Ten requires teams to provide conference opponents with film of all their games as shot by the team’s video staff. According to the report, Michigan State did not get full game film of Ohio State until Thursday and was forced to go to nonconference teams who played Ohio State for more film.

“A few other teams we talked to that they played, and we compared what they were looking at on tape to what we were looking at,” Narduzzi reportedly continued. “We’re like, ‘We don’t see any of that. We see it on their tape but not on our tape.’ So that’s something I’m sure the Big Ten office will hopefully take care of.”

Though Narduzzi indicated to the Free Press that Michigan State had filed a complaint against the Buckeyes with the conference, the paper reported that the schools’ athletic directors worked out the issue without Big Ten intervention.

First-year Ohio State coach Urban Meyer denied knowledge of the alleged doctored tapes.

“I don’t know anything about that,” Meyer reportedly said after his press conference. “I don’t handle the video. What are they saying?

“There is no video issue here,” Meyer reportedly told the Free Press.

Meyer, who won two national championships with Florida, is no stranger to controversy with his fellow Big Ten coaches. He rubbed some of them the wrong way when he got recruits to flip their commitments from opposing schools on National Signing Day.

come on Michigan State , theres no crying in football !!!!

  • SpinMax

The most shocking part of this is finding out teams have to provide their opponents with video footage of themselves.

  • mgcre

Apparently you never played in HS or college. Film exchange is a common practice among schools.

if you cant, cry and whine

With all these games televised and plays and highlights getting re run over and over..I’m just not sure what’s on these videos that can be cut out..or is this another example of Urban Meyer just doing things to irritate his Big 10 Coaching brethren… like recruiting too aggressively to get more talented players.. or are there secrets on these videos that can only be revealed if a school sends out uncut videotape.

Have to agree with Spin, never heard of a school giving their opponent film on themselves.

Urban Meyer  has always pushed the limit! He did at Utah and Florida before he came to Ohio St.  Better hold on to your recruits and better check your film and watch who’s taping your signals because Meyers has no shame and he’ll cheat if you let him…..

  • ed27

The coaches tape shows all 27 players from two angles–the end zone and from the side line.  It is far different than what fans see on television and from highlights.

  • ed27

     Meant to say 22 players–sorry.

so if mich. st. WON, would they still cry about the tapes? I think not!! and what happened to sending scouts to games, that used to be the way things where done, now its, you show me what you got so i can stop you!!

Well said, mgcre…. SpinMax, it sounds like you know nothing about football … Please stick to Dancing With The Stars, or whatever reality show you probably look at!!

  • nctheus

Since you know nothing about football, why are you even commenting on a sports board??

OU good luck with Urban “The Liar” meyer. This guy bailed on Florida when he realized his team had shot its wad and for thenext few years they could not compete with the likes of Alabama and LSU so made this pathetic claim of poor health and wanting to spend more time with his family. So he tried sportcasting and realized he had nor personality for that. Then when offered the OU job claimed he had no interest wanted to be with his family and then lo and behold he takes the job. This guy is a classless, narcisstic sack of you know what!

Ohio State and Urban Meyer – a marriage of the classless.

Neither can stick to rules and practices…. always try to shortcut the system.

Both are bad for college sports and need to be dealt with SEVERELY for a long time.

What shifts? Ohio State runs like 8 plays. How tough could it be to game plan for that? Cmon Narduzzi man up.

A lot of casuaul and devout fans did not know about the NCAA requiring the film exchange rule. So to you mental midgets who think its cute an clever to slight other bloggers….. Show some class. As for the video doctoring it happened and of course Urban is going to deny it. Not that it really matters, but it does show glaring character flaws within OSU athlectics. As for you OSU homers, I am not a MSU fan per say, I am a fan of good sportsmanship and honor among collegues. It all works out in the end.
