Texas wide receiver Mike Davis threw an incredibly dangerous cheap shot during his team’s 31-30 victory over Iowa State on Thursday night. After Longhorns running back Joe Bergeron scampered into the end zone to give Texas a 24-20 lead in the third quarter, Davis dove at the knee of Iowa State defensive back Deon Broomfield.
As you can see, Broomfield had completely given up on the play. Davis was obviously aware of that. The Longhorns star was flagged for unnecessary roughness, but you could argue that isn’t enough. If players can now be ejected for what they call “targeting” an opposing receiver, I don’t see why diving at someone’s knee shouldn’t result in the same. A play like that can end a career.Google+
