Missouri reportedly fired DL coach Jackie Shipp for argument with player

Jackie Shipp

Missouri has fired defensive line coach Jackie Shipp with one game left in the regular season.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports news of Shipp’s firing, and they say an argument the coach had with a player prior to Sunday’s game at Tennessee played a role in the move. The Post-Dispatch’s Dave Matter also says Shipp did not coach in the game and did not travel back with the team to campus.

Tigers coach Barry Odom says Shipp was fired due to an internal matter.

“Jackie Shipp is no longer coaching for us, due to an internal matter where his conduct didn’t meet our expectations for coaches. We have a very high level of expectation for our student athletes, and for our staff that applies to an even higher level,” Odom said in a statement.

According to the Post-Dispatch, Shipp wasn’t Odom’s first choice for the job, and he was a late addition to the staff when added in February.

Missouri lost their game at Tennessee and has struggled this season, going just 3-8. They face Arkansas on Friday for their season finale.
