Nebraska AD ‘angry, frustrated’ after loss to Northern Illinois

Nebraska football

Nebraska’s athletic director voiced his frustration after the Cornhuskers lost to Northern Illinois on Saturday.

The Huskers lost 21-17 at home to the Huskies, marking their first defeat to a non-Power 5 team since 2004. Athletic director Shawn Eichorst spoke for the fans when he expressed his frustration after the game.

“I’m angry, I’m frustrated, I’m disappointed,” Eichorst said after the game, via ESPN. “At the end of the day we have to stay together. It’s still early in the season and we need to find ways to win games like this. I want to continue to show our support, but I also understand there is a lot of frustration out there when you don’t win games like today.

“I want to make sure folks understand we’ve got to get that fixed and we have to get heading in the right direction, and we have the right coach to do it. But we have to get going.”

Eichorst still expressed faith in coach Mike Riley, who received a contract extension during the week. After going 6-7 in his first season at Nebraska, Riley showed improvement by going 9-4 last year. A loss like this will give fans plenty of reason to question the direction of the program as the Huskers are now 1-2 and have dropped consecutive games.
